Hi Guys,

It’s about 6months since our GCC Kevin came into our lives. I believe he is around a year old now and for the last two weeks the little man has turned into a demonic monster. Due to his constant masturbating I think I can safely guess he has reached sexual maturity. Together with the masturbating, territorial and aggression he has decided he doesn’t like my husband or son. He seems (at the moment )to only tolerate myself and daughter.
From doing research I know this is a hormonal phase and will eventually pass. Kev is parent reared and not wing clipped. He is out of his cage all day and free to roam around. Before this he had started to cuddle, nudge for affection etc. Just need some reassurance that my sweet little man is still there somewhere and will return and an idea of how long this phase lasts.

Sounds typical GCC!

Yes he is still in there...but the hormones do seem to take over with them.
Maybe a bit of in cage time too, and you could try feeding well cooked chickpeas if he will eat them, as they can sometimes help on the hormones front.

Fist of all you should try to discourage him if he is doing this on you then you may move regally so your bird has to think of balance and not of its intentions, his current advances can last just over two months
 
Luckily he doesn’t do it on me/us. He prefers his toys and the top of his bed/tent.
Can I expect this then to only happen during mating season from now on , as he has reached sexual maturity ?

you could remove the toy that he uses and put new toys in to see if this calms his desirers and hopefully he will become more friendly to others
 
It will pass, a couple of my Sennies are like this now , do it in their cage, I leave them - they get on with it so to speak,
as it happens every year.
 
Mine are like that to at the moment. I have bruises to prove it. I try and move Gizzie onto his java tree now every time he gets Randy with me. But he flys back down and will do it anywhere he can on me, I find it a bit difficult with Mia and Bernie too. It is my fault as I allowed them to do it on me, which is very stupid of me. I was told it was cruel to deny them but it has caused more problems. Now I see why you need to discourage it.
Cheeky was always doing it on me, everyday of the year!!!!!
