Hi

Did you get him DNA tested or was it done before you got him or should I say her now? 🙈 I met someone recently who had an amazon and it was confirmed as a male and bought for breeding by its previous owner who then had it DNA tested again after having no luck and the result was that he was actually female despite having a DNA certificate that said male. The first certificate didn't look very legitimate to me and a few others that I asked at the time.

What did you do with the egg? My african grey isnt DNA tested... Im just hoping i dont find an egg one day :risas3:

:welcome: definitely sounds like Alfred is an Alfreida, has she only laid one egg? And how long ago.

Thank you for the replies, he laid it last night. I always had cardboard for him to rip etc, but have removed that now as read about the nesting signs, now I know why he wanted to cuddle in my arms for the last week :) We got the certificate from the lady I bought him off.

In my opinion best leave the cardboard and the egg, she will likely lay maybe 3 more, if you take them away she is likely to lay to replace them. she cannot help it, it is only natural and in time it will pass. After a while she will take no notice of them all and you can remove them, maybe one at a time. Do give her calcium supplement as they need it when they lay.

My little timneh (who is elderly) is on one egg as we speak. She lays them from time to time, seems to enjoy sitting on them, then abandons them after the usual incubation period. As mentioned above, a decent calcium/D3 supplement is needed at this time.

Ok found his certificate, simply says Alfie P\SUK EA25 and hatch date 30/04/08. So I guess he is a SHE then 😁 I honestly thought it said he was dna tested somewhere!! DUH

Have you checked the ring no on the leg matches the certificate? How long have you owned her? if it was after the African Grey became critically endangered you should have CITES paperwork that will state the sex of the bird, DNA testing can be wrong i have two males that DNA'd female and had a Dna Male that was a female.

Cites paperwork doesn't have to have the sex of the bird on it plus this bird is older than the endangered upgrade likely no paperwork unless it's been request subsequently.
First post says they have owned the bird 8 years @Michael Reynolds
