making nutriberry type thing ?

Hi All.

im going to make, well attempt to make some type of nutriberry for Bert.

Going with basically nuts, seed,

oaks or feast egg food (which do you think, i'm leaning towards Feast) ??,

dried fruit, crushed pellets maybe some quinoa and anything else i can find thats dryish, i'll put a tiny dab of honey in them.

now for the moisture, i was thinking of using aloe vera juice, would this be ok ?

Yes for coconut or almond or palm oil and no to aloe
Aloe you would need to grow, peel and crush the pulp and depending on if your intending to bake it or dry it and if you intend to keep for a week depending on the batch you make it's all going to turn in to a nightmare as being a fresh plant would be hellish to stabilise and as for the bottled stuff you would have to be careful of the additives interacting or destabilising anything else....
Hope we get to see a sample of the finished product
Seem to recall other's in the past posting a few recipes on forum will have to see if I can find them for you

Here it is a thread with multiple links to recipes

So step one, seems to of gone some what well, i do feel the minute he touches them they will turn to dust, but not the worst attempt.

i need more of a gooey binding thing.

Just to be safe before i feed him, its got the below in it and weights.

will this be ok do you think ?
oh on the back is Quinoa also added 5g

and plain water used to bind

Err can only say .... if he eats them great if not then back to the drawing board and feed the wild ones with the batches he hates :p
What makes you think any of the rest of us know what we are doing anymore????? My birdies have just about got me trained though :risas3:

So you think it will be ok to use in the next "improved" batch ?

lol just read all this, 8,9,10,11then 10,11,10,11,10,11 is me down to a tee, and then when I settle down and he's quiet, I worry, then he goes ballistic for a few minutes and I worry again.

im so glad im not that abnormal, well not to abnormal anyway.

Looks like you are going to be busy in the kitchen for a while
It's a good selection but not nutritionally balanced i wouldn't say it's totally unhealthy though and wouldn't say he's not allowed to plunder them alongside fruit and veggies and his normal balanced diet
The oats are a great way to lower cholesterol in birds (same as it works in humans) you must always remember though that birds have a very specific nutritional balance need which is different to ours (and our human perception) they do need a certain amount of fat etc we just have to keep an eye on how much we limit or give access too, we are still trying to figure out what they naturally eat in the wild and at which levels and why.
Soooooo if he likes them great but it cannot be an only fed food

hi, thank you, no I won't change his normal pellet/veg routine but I just wanted to make sure he was free to eat this as much as he want's (within reason) so today ive skimmed his pellets down slightly and added a cube of this but he really does love it.

its just another thing he can have to mix his diet up a little more as he's not a big veg eater.

so he gets his pellets, his veg (when he eats it) his fruit, feast pretty much daily, then nuts for training, and a nutriberry for dinner.

so if this is "healthy" or somewhat I can give him this with/alongside the others.

You can indeed and you could replace his nutriberries if your buying them with the new "Scott Berries" you can also try out adding dried fruit very finely diced or chilli seeds etc to the new ones just to bounce variety around a bit.

hi

Perfect, thank you, chilli seeds i will try to add next, they do have dried mixed fruit in them, maybe my hand writing or the picture didnt show very well, but below is the full list of ingredients and weights.

20g dried mixed fruit (Tidymix tropical fruit mix, Papaya, Pineapple, Mango, Toasted Coconut)
20g Harrison HP and lifetime mixed pellets
15g mixed nuts (walnut, cashews, hazelnut, almonds, brazil, pine nuts)
10g organic milk thistle seeds
4g organic bee pollen
40g feast natural egg food (birdcare company one)
5g rosehips
5g feast fruit flavour (same as above)
5g feast gold label (same as above)
10g oats
10g 100% natural bee Honey (bee farm down the road)
5g coconut oil
10g quinoa

the little worry is the sugar content in it all ??

No issues on the sugar content as it's not just purified, the natural honey isn't just sugar it has heaps of beneficial properties
I have a spreadsheet will email it to you in the next day or two it has the complete nutritional contents of items of just about all the food you can feed a parrot! Yes I seriously did sit and compile it when I was having a nervous breakdown at what my birds were and were not eating :bird_brain:
