i have been handed this little guy as he was found in a garden
he has drunk plenty but not really seen him eat yet
he has a bowl of fruit but only seems to lick it
he has been scanned and no chip but it has a breeders ring
ill do my best to find its owner . thanks in advance for any help

Hello Darrendiver well it good that this little fellow has been found now I am sure the owner would of reported the loss of such a lovely bird. Do you know the species if not put a photo here and I will identify the little fellow. well I think you can put this find on pets Located and inform John Hayward but do not put the ring type or number down as this can be supplied by its owner. @diana T have you got John Haywood's No. what area was it found?

yeah its a rainbow lorikeet , there is a ring on his foot but i was letting the little guy rest before i try to handle him to read the ring , the vets have scanned it and no chip was found

its tail feathers look hacked a bit and the people who caught it said it could not fly well and terrible at landing

it looks happy and is playing in the cage , drank loads but not seen him eat anything yet

i have already emailed john and its on the parrots lost and found already , also a few local facebook groups

thanks

It needs specialist feed, a lorikeet nectar, https://shop.robharvey.com/avi-plus-special-lorikeet-nectar-4097-p.asp in the mean time you can add several spoonfulls of honey to water or make up a packet of fruit based human baby food to a very wet mix, like single cream, they do tend to like soft fruit so very ripe pear maybe?

If I remember correctly you are Essex based? the guy who runs the pet shop in Chelmsford used to keep a lot of lories if you need help http://the-arkpets.co.uk/

i have just ordered the nectar for on a next day delivery so it will be here tomorrow
yeah im in essex
i have got some parrot jellies . would this be ok for him to try ?
i got a load of fruit so ill make up a smoothie now for him

Yes he could have the jellies for now......just be warned don't put him anywhere difficult to clean, they tend to squirt their very wet poo out the sides of the cage and it is a nightmare to get off carpets wallpaper or the like as it is really sticky, lovely birds but dirty buggers!

i have managed to get the details from the breeders ring , anyone know how to contact the breeder from this info please
thanks

It's not your average bird to be found / lost would have thought it would stand out somebody searching for their lost bird
anyways well done you :)

Do you live far from Colchester zoo. They have loads of rainbow lorikeet. Worth asking if they have any info. Just a thought.

i called the zoo and they didn't want to know , i asked if they would assist me with a little food for 1 day until i could get some , they point blank said no , i offered to buy some but again no was the reply
