Loose Poop

Sharia park

Hi I’m new here, and I am a mum of two parrots and also a first time parrot owner. My recently adopted Alexandrian parrot seems to have really loose droppings for about two weeks, what’s wrong and what should i do?

Hello and Welcome Sharia park, Loose droppings can happen for many reasons. what are its normal diet? it may be also to do with the weather and your bird taking in more fluids. the problem that I am always concerned about us weight loss and dehydration. do you keep a weight record of your bird?

His normal diet is seeds, fruit and vegetables, but I haven’t attempted to get him on a pellet diet , and he hasn’t lost his apetite or anything. But he does seem to have a taste for my cockatiels food, so maybe this is why, and he did just get parted from his friend, who the previous owner kept together. There are no other symptoms of illness, which is what worries me, as I don’t know if I should just get him checked by the vet. Due to my lack of Intelligence, I completely blacked out on weighing him so I don’t know.

@Sharia park given you your own thread for the loose poop too.
If you can post a photo of the droppings it helps
Have you been to a good avian vet I say avian rather than a general vet as birds need their own specialist person.

I am sorry your bird was parted from his friend, very sad, was there a reason for this.

Poops vary depending on stress levels, what the bird has eaten etc. If he has eaten a lot of fruit then yes they are loose and eventually with a good varied diet should settle. However, as has been mentioned do seek out a good avian vet a check up and a sample taken there may provide answers and as said can you post up a photo of the poop.
