Ok so maybe a slight exaggeration (yes you can move this thread 😛)

but after only 8 short months we’ve had a proper breakthrough, the first time Bert has stepped up of his own accord, we’ve managed before but it’s always been last choice for him, stuck or had no choice, never, ever in or in the cage.

Few days ago he touched it with his beak, yesterday he touched it with his big toe🙄

Today a foot and then two and then a little walk along, thank you Roz and all.

I know it’s not much but this is the first time he’s done it through choice. I’ve learnt it has to be rock solid, the slightest mm move and he’s gone, so I had my little finger trapped in his cage bar so even if I wanted I couldn’t move the perch a MM (downside I can’t actually feel my little finger now 😂😂 but oh so worth it)

Woooooo! Go Bert!!!! Awesome progress. One small step for man, one giant leap for Bert-kind! That's a massive breakthrough

Thank you, I won’t lie I’m so jealous of you and how quick/easy it was and seeing your posts, but they are all different and I have to keep reminding myself.

Aww don't be! I honestly think its great and such a massive step. It took me about 2 months to get one of my other birds to step up and I was so excited even though it seemed like such a small achievement compared to the ringneck i had when i was younger who learned to step up within a few days! I've had my parrotlets over a year and I'm still trying to earn their trust! They prefer hanging out with each other.

Its a huge step though because clearly Bert is becoming more comfortable with you and being able to handle him will make it that much easier for you to bond with him even further. Its great progress!

I really wasn't expecting Ollie to take to me quite so quickly. I don’t think anyone was. They told me it could take months or even years. I think I just got lucky but i was completely willing to spend months working with him. I love our little training sessions because it keeps his mind busy and helps us to bond with each other. He's always really keen too! He still will not step onto my hand and much prefers my arm and gripping onto my sleeve. I dont want to push him so I've kept training pretty hands off for now until ive gained further trust from him but he does allow me to stroke his beak occasionally.

What seems like a small achievement is actually a massive step to furthering your relationship! It paves the way for further progress for sure. If he trusts you enough to now step up then it shows you're getting somewhere. :egypt:

He's coming along lovely :) your doing a great job at gaining his trust
Going to tag Roz she's going to love to see this and how hes coming along @Roz

Great video Scott, you are doing so well with him, great approach keeping lower and movements not too fast keeping a calm voice and you watching Bert's body language are all perfect, I hope others that are having problems in training will watch this video

It's so great to see Bert is doing so well!! Excellent training, @Scott199 :applaudit:

Remember hun Bert has been through a bit; shuttled about, it all has an effect. You are doing amazing! :)

It isn't a race, I am working on possibly two years with lil boy Sonu to get anywhere concrete with him.
