Leaning bird.

Afternoon all,

My parrotlet fifi appears to be leaning to one side when she is perching.

At the minute she is laying on eggs, she seems a little swollen as she is due to lay again but not egg bound etc. Yesterday we had a bit of a panic where she got an egg stuck to her and since then ive noticed if she is perching she is leaning to one side.

So, she is gripping correctly and firm, she is flying and landing not favouriting a foot, she is using both feet as normal and doesn’t appear to be in any pain/distress.. I have checked both her feet and she isn’t swollen and doesn’t have any sores or nail problems but when she gets off her eggs and perches she puts one leg up and leans the opposite direction.. this isn’t something ive noticed before..
She is eating and drinking absolutely fine, no signs of illness.. boyfriend questioned if it was because she is due to lay again and a bit swollen if it’s uncomfortable for her to sit straight..

I will happily take her to the vet if she needs to go, just thought id ask a bit of advice before the extra stress on her when she is laying..

She isn’t falling or unstable either just to add, she isn’t coming out much at the moment as she is dedicated to laying on the eggs that won’t hatch, poor girl!🙁

What shape are the eggs?
Are they coming out a normal shape? Sometimes if the pelvic area is inflamed or slightly off in shape it can cause issues and discomfort with laying.
If the leaning is new behaviour during this egg laying time I would personally be wanting to get it checked out if at the rest of the time she doesn't lean when at rest - basically if its new behaviour noted and not standard behaviour for the bird it can be a warning sign of an issue.
You said and egg got stuck to her while she was laying ... that's definitely not normal the egg should harden as it reaches the outside air and shouldn't be able to stick to her that would make me think that they are coming out with a "coating of some type"
I would say air on the side of caution and get her checked. Wait till she lays the next egg then transport her not while the egg is about to be laid (which is usually every other day) unless of course you think the egg is stuck then its an emergency.

I understood that she broke an egg and then part of it stuck to her, most likely through the yoke causing it to stick as it dried.

Hello, yeah apologies should have been clearer. She had bitten a hole in one of her eggs and moved it away from the other eggs, but she then decided to bring it back and it got stuck to her feather on her chest because yolk leaked and dried..
I didn’t realise she had moved one away until her egg got stuck and when i took it from her noticed she had bitten a hole in the side of it.

Her eggs are normal shape, nothing in the egg shape has changed thankfully.
I will monitor her and when she pops the next one out will give the vet a ring and see if they can fit her in for a bit of a check.
Its a strange one because she got off her eggs this morning and didn’t lean, but she was leaning all day yesterday when resting.. I will air on the side of caution 🙂

Apologies didn't read broken egg although that does make me wonder how it's been broken she's either playing football with them or perhaps the shell is a bit thin
