So I got my beautiful Kiwi (previously named Charlie by previous owner) 4 days ago, I am totally smitten with her. She is taking food from my hand and I even chanced a tiny nut to offer her - not been 100% sure if she would scarpa or bite me - she just sat there and took it from me, also I have been talking to her and always tell her good morning beautiful Kiwi and Goodnight beautiful kiwi, as I want her to get used to her new name and she knows that I am going to uncover her or cover her , it could just be that she was feeling joyful or maybe , and I am hoping this is the case that when I uncovered her this morning and I went out in to the kitchen she started what I would call shouting , I went back in to her and gave her a piece of food from my hand which she took. Is it possible that she was shouting for me or is it more that she was feeling full of joy. I will also post this in the training section.

Sounds like she's settling in well :) . Just bear in mind though, if you give her food when she shouts or screams, she will see that as a reward and she'll have basically trained you to cater for her every whim when she's yelling. ;) Wait until she calm and quiet and give her treats then, otherwise she'll yell for everything.
I say this because I inadvertently got trained by one of my macaws to give him a treat to get off my arm. So every time I entered the room he launched himself at me and flatly refused to budge until I took him into the kitchen for food! I undid the behaviour eventually, but it's SO easy to get into it!

Thank you for the heads up on her possibly training me instead of the other way around lol. She has been really active in her cage today going to different perches and sat there chunering on to herself lol. She sits there beak grinding (think that is what the call it) and I have read that it means she is content and happy and can also mean she is feeling sleepy. Bought her a mirror today and she has enjoyed looking at herself in it and putting her head around it in a like peekaboo , so I took the opportunity to say peekaboo to her. She has taken food from me again (I only give her food when she is just sat there and is quiet don't want to reward screaming my neighbour won't like me very much as she works nights and we live in a terrace. She has even started to do a little playing with her toys which was lovely to see, she gets a toy swap next week just to give her something new to play with so she isnt bored. She has come on loads in the 6 days we have had her, she still not completely sure of my hand unless it has food in so will keep working on that, I did however nearly get her on a dowel perch but she changed her mind after putting one foot on it , it will be slow progress but I am home all day so have lots of time to spend training her and getting her to know she is safe. She has totally stolen my heart bless her, my youngest labrador (she is 5yr old now) seems to think she can just go around hoovering all the food up that has been whizzed out of Kiwi bowl by Kiwi. (Obviously we don't allow the dogs near the cage but if I turn my back for a second my young lab is like a hoover around the cage). I will add I never allow the dogs near the cage when I am around and they know birds are to be left, and I would never leave them unattended when we get to the point Kiwi can come out of her cage. The dogs were great with my budgies and knew not to chase or go near them when they were out and I never left them unattended).
