Good morning all. Just after a little advice.

Yesterday a bought a "super tame" green cheeked conure.
It's lovely, really syurdy, not scared of anything apart from absolutely everything and I mean everything.

Any tips or tricks on taming/ training?

I managed to com him on to to my finger last but and he is friendly and doesn't bite. Just I. General you can't get anywhere near him. He is only young. Hatch on 24/01/16

Aww dear little chap can we have a photo and what's the name.

Was the bird hand reared? and is very young.
Of course you are taking him into your home which is a scary place to be where he knows no one, and doesn't recognise anything there, so you will need lots of time and patience for him to settle down and find his bearings and learn to trust you.

have a look under the Training thread, lots of good tips there.

He will need time to settle down in his new surroundings with his new flock.....so give him a bit of time, he'll soon come to you when he's ready and has got used to you. Have you tried sitting by his cage and just talking / reading out loud to him. Will he come to you more easily if you offer him a seed or small piece of nut as a treat? Just be patient, and don't try to force him. As Di says there's some really good info in the Training section....look at the two pinned topics by Roz on the step up. Keep us posted on progress and do let us see a piccie.

Oh sweet Bird! He may of been with siblings until you had him, and only known one room, cage, perch, person etc. So loads of change for Bird. But they are naturally curious. I would not try put my hand near him. Just let him out and go about your business near by, maybe playing with a new toy, preparing some fruit, he shouldn't be able to resist, once you can get him to feed from your hand, then you can start coaxing him to step up. Lots of fun ahead. I love the name.

Hi Michael well little bird sounds wonderful and you should find he will love his new home as there will be so much going on. On thing is these bird are inquisitive and once settled he will be into everything, exploring his new home and the people around him now the hardest thing is keeping him safe as your boys can get excited and forget to close doors properly or look out for him encase he is on the floor or the top of a door

I k ow exactly what your saying Michael. We have had to buy spoung door stops and start locking Windows the kids often slam doors and leave a window open. I guess it's the joys of having kids. He is a great bird though we are buying differs r fruits and veg and millet but once we find something birdie really likes it can be our thing to feed together and bond a but. We have already but him next to us in the front room so we r in close proximity.

He will play with you on a perch. He knows step up and step down as a command and will do it with out hessitation once you say step up he leg goes up ready. We have caught him once or twice and he loves having his head scratched. He closes his eyes and Hoes limp lmao silly bird

image.jpeg He looks just like my mums green cheek! She bought him on 14th of Feb this year. He was supposedly hand reared but was no where near as tame as my sun conure and still isn't. He is still very young though, and he is getting more tame. Your Bird looks like he's doing really well!
