Its an individual parrot choice apparently

Got a lot of toys the other day for the flock from Northern Parrots and popped them in it always amuses me that I have to buy double toys for Tuppy as she destroys everything a heck of a lot faster than all the others put together she just goes in to grey-frenzy-rip-it-trash-it mode the rest of the flock seem to spend a lot of time just watching her rampaging around a lot like she's high on crack cocaine! But then again she's been like that since she was a chick always the dare devil always the one being a hooligan :) She's actually a real sweetie when it comes to handling so that's a total blessing .... even if she does think it funny to sit on my shoulder and pull my hear. When I am cage cleaning she sits just above my head usually and says "ha haaa" just before she reaches down and pulls my hair lol. Kind of gives herself away and what is going to happen next. Still uber sweet.
Weirdly as her sister Denarii is from the same parents but a different nesting a year younger and she's very reserved very sweet but very very reserved and doesn't take to strangers or new things easily. She spends a lot of time growling as Bob once discovered he said hello Tuppy replied hello back and Denarii sat there going raaaarrrrraaaahhhhh as some greys do! It's the same with toys she likes certain particular things and even if she hasn't had a favourite toy for a while and she gets a new one she's all over it like measles give her something totally new to her that she hasn't seen before and you have to take it out at night time for a few days before she decides its not going to eat her and its safe to kill.
The ammie boys they don't care about anything if they like it then its destroyed if they aren't keen its just totally ignored or taken down and dropped on the floor of the cage as they don't like it.
Henni though .... she's game for anything, has to look at everything totally and utterly unafraid of whatever is around her but she would rather be human interactive than toy interactive.... if I play with one of her toys she's up for a game but left to her own devices not interested.

Since the price of the simplest of parrot toys seems to be escalating due to import duties etc I must source some new places to get things from by having a look at some of the things available for the rodent populations as quite a few rodent toys are made from willow and seagrass and are suitable for birds as well.
Quite a few eco friends things like kitchen utensils are made from things like beech wood and banana leaf as well these days an so a lot of those are parrot friendly as well just need to be a bit into making your own toys is all.
Going to see what I an come up with if anybody has any inventions of their own feel free to share the love! :)

I used to get these from The Range and throw away the pastry brush but drill holes in the tops of the others and make a hanging dangling destroyable shew thing. They used to just be £1.99 but are now £2.99 but still quite reasonable when you consider the price of chew blocks etc. Nee to pop over and see what they have available ...

I agree re toys, in the past have bought ones for rodents and parrots got on well with them but there's not so much choice now.

I find that Dora isn't into toys although I bought a huge reel of jute twine from the Trixie people and make ladders, knots etc which she will chew on...she'll play "hide the seed" with me using measuring spoons, and chase screwed up paper balls and that's about it! Apart from eating handbags, shoes and belts she seems to be happiest just shoulder surfing.

I have found the more simple the toy is, the more he plays with it. He loves stainless Steel measure cups and spoons hanging from the top of the cage. I try and buy natural materials for toys from scarlets and fit them on a stainless steel parrot food skewers, which keeps him occupied for hours.

I also use natural sisal rope, and just put knots in it and he hangs up side down for along time on this. Sisal Rope is very cheap to buy from rope suppliers, just make sure its not got oil soaked into it before purchasing. As for any rope toys make sure you regularly inspect it for any issues that may cause dangerous situations.

Of the manufacturer toys that I have brought for him, which have been quite extensive, he just don't want to know. I have offen taken these apart for making smaller toys from. I do wonder sometimes these toys might be just to much going on and overwhelming, or they are possible scared of them.

Also don't forget foot toys, again I buy natural sticks and paper type things from parrot suppliers, he don't get them often, but he loves it when on the play stand. They don't last long but it's so enjoyable to watch him play.

I know my Aflie (BFA) is different to a lot of birds if given "parts" he will make his own toys.
First time I saw this I just about fell off my chair it was when he came to live with me back in 2014.
My thoughts on how intelligent he really was just about blew the lid off the pot so to speak!
The next time I managed to take a few pictures before he noticed me, I did put it on forum somewhere as I was so shocked by him making things by himself. I couldn't work out if he was copying me or if he was doing it of his own accord.
Just simple things I let him take some leather strips and then he wanted beech untreated dolly pegs then he took some of bits I couldn't understand why he kept coming to me and taking things I hung the leather strip up to see what he would do if he could unthread it like a quaker would.... wasn't expecting what I saw. He was threading the pegs onto the leather shoving it on so it would stay and then getting the next thing.
Pictures are old crappy and taken on my old phone so rubbish quality but they clearly show what he's up to haven't thought about what he can do for a long time he just does it and I just give him things to do it with never thought about mentioning it on here again I kind of gotten used to him being able to do things he wants to do that others don't or can;t .......
