Inherited Anxious Plucked African Grey

Love it Brenda! That's so cool!
I really want to get Aku showering with us / me... but she is not a fan of water at the moment... :/

I have another stupid newbie question... Aku seems to have decided to sleep hanging off the bars at the side of her cage tonight... she's never done this before to my knowledge... and I keep hearing little tip taps as she readjusts and moves around... We've tried coaxing her down... but she is stedfastly staying put... WHY!? Is this okay? Can she sleep like this?? Any ideas why she's suddenly changed from sleeping on a perch? Thanks again for all your collective wisdom! Gold mine! So reassuring!

Do you cover her cage at night? All mine get covered but only 3/4 of the cage or when hot just 1/2 so they can still peep out if they wish.

Thanks for that Diana! :)
Yes..
She's always had her cage covered... I used some blackout fabric that I have on the front half of the cage & a little round the sides... perhaps that would be too heavy in hot weather.... but I guess in winter will keep her cage nice and warm !

She seems fine this morning, so I guess it was OK to sleep like that!

Our birds are totally dependent on us for their care, just like a human baby. It is natural to feel nervous and stressed about it sometimes, but it soon becomes easier. In the early days I'd be leaping into action - probably unnecessarily. They do some things now and I barely bat an eyelid. Sure, I watch them but take a much calmer approach. They have to learn (and parrots are very quick learners) and as long as they are in no danger I usually let them work things out for themselves as the experience will serve them well in the future.

Nearly seven years on, I’m still over anxious when it comes to Ruby. In the summer, I worry she’s too hot, in winter, too cold. I must moan about the weather because she does say “It’s cold!”. And when she does, what do I do? Of course, put the heating up! :emoji_laughing::emoji_laughing:

Enjoying nice warm rice and dahl!!! She has stuffed her crop to the brim!!! Whoever suggested offering her our food - good call!!! She also really likes being hand fed!!! Lol... she is soooooo gentle! Hubby really enjoyed feeding her this!!! :Do
