IRN's will eat nearly any thing they are survivors and this is the main reason they are doing so well around England, so much depends on how active your bird gets, the main dry feed I use is Lean and fit by Johnson and Jeff, my birds will often try to get any of my other birds food, they even will stand under my green winged hoping to get any droppings from the nuts that they have no chance to break whilst Jackie is eating they do the same with fruit, if they want something the others have they can be very cunning and just wait for the opportunity to grab it, I do not give pellets to them as there feed but in most food bowls I mix a few pellets in , if they are active I will allow a few sunflowers seeds normally as training

it one small step for man, one big step for bird kind, you are doing well in gaining trust, have you tried different treats to see what is his ultimate favorite? slowly make it a little more difficult for him to reach, by twisting your hand slightly away from his beak so he has to stretch that little bit moor, keeping your hand near him so he has the opportunity to be able to step on it if he want his treat, if he try's to bite then just pull your hand away, but remember a bird will check your hand to make sure it is safe buy using its beak you may think he is going to bite you but that may not be his intention. it can be hard to judge but its an important stage in that you both have to learn to trust each other

You realise when a bird goes to step on you, your hand or finger they use their beak to steady themselve, so it's not necessarily going to be a bite, but it could be! If you keep taking it away that could also encourage a bite. It's being brave and finding the balance.
