Imping Photos

Wow, absolutely amazing.

I wouldn`t like to be in with any of our birds while they were under anesthetic, but it`s good to see the pictures afterwards. I cried just hearing ours going under anesthetic sat in the waiting room!!!!!!! That`s why I believe these things are best left to the vets who know what they are doing.

It`s an amazing story, it really is!

I know what you mean Scarlett. We weren't near when budge went under but I've seen Elvis and budge previously for their beaks doing and its not half as bad as you would think xx

I always stay with my birds when the vet has to do anything, and make a point of doing so. I like to know exactly what is going on. I sometimes help the vet with holding the bird or a wing etc, while it is aneasthetised. It's interesting to see how the breathing rate falls or rises within a few* seconds*, in relation to how much aneasthetic is being given. The dose/rate is varied using a dial on the gas supply line. For light aneasthetic (as when imping) the birds do come back round very quickly.

With some hawks, they don't even use aneasthetic, for imping sometimes; just put a hood on them, and in this 'darkness' the birds seem happy to be restrained without aneastetic while the vet does what is needed.

With my previous vet I stayed with them but Richard said he likes to take them in the back on their own so they don't associate us with the stress. He gave me the option but I decided to stay out xc

Intresting to see what the process actually is, and how it will improve budge's life.

Thank you for sharing that Ann-Marie, fantastic to see how a bird is helped with this procedure.

He is,doing really well physically. A few have mounted out now and been replaced by his own feathers which is great. He can fly as when he gets spiked he flies and doesn't crash anymore.

But he choses not to fly. In fact he choses not to move from "his corner" of the room despite have access to everything. He can't seem to get used to the fact he can fly and his biting is worse that ever xx

Ouch Ann-Marie :(

Good thing is he dont crash anymore when he flies and his own feathers coming through...

When they been clipped it happens many times that they dont want to fly a lot or at all afterwards I heard..so guess its true :(

Thing is now though Kerstin, when they, are growing, they are supported by the other ones so they grow no problems. I recon next year they will more or less, all be his own xx

Great to hear he can fly, the fact he chooses not too is fab as at the end of the day he CAN if he wants :good:

yes thats great - still cant believe how different he looks now when i came and saw him before xmas..your turn to come over next now lol bet John would fall in love with the U2 i have here xx
