hi there! (i'm not very sharp in English but ill try my best)
Around six week ago i have adopted a four years old conure. i have to say that he was really nervous even at the owners house and the road back home was really long..
sooo.. i have tried to make him feel comfortable around me and he stopped screaming when ever im aroun and he started walking in hes cage but he still doesnt want to come to my hand..
ive had some mistakes with him before- my mom roped some feathers off his tail by mistake in the first day and i didnt know the rule about giving him space at the firs two weeks (the owner told me that i need take him even i he wants to stay inside)
now, every time im trying let him out he uses my hands to go back up..
i really need help with him. i want to show him he can trust me..

Hello and welcome, it can take a little longer to regain trust but I will tag our @Roz for her training advice, do you now the species of your conure,

:welcome: from me too.
As Michael said I am sure Roz will offer advice when she is next on the forum.
Which country are you in please?

:thumbsup:Ooh I think you may be our only members from there, we do have a few from other parts of the world though.

I hope you are not badly affected by the corona virus, please stay safe. its good to have a member from Israel, your bird is lovely in England they are known as Pineapple green cheek conures. ok he is still young so first of all try to find out your birds favorite treats, try him with a variety of foods and observe what he goes for first. this will become your food for training. Please do not get worried if he nips you as these conures are well known when young to be nippy and they do play a bit rough with other conures but they do grow out of this. ok always make sounds before entering the room or turning on lights. always keep you hands lower than where your bird is sitting, always approach him slowly. What is his name?

:welcome: Michelle and Ranji. He looks comfortable sitting on that perch.

To gain his trust you need to be pairing yourself and your hands with good experiences for him. Likewise, if you pair yourself and your hands with adverse/bad experiences (things that he doesn't like or that are frightening) it will destroy any trust.

Right now because he is so new, it is hard to pair yourself with good experiences because he is afraid of you. So take a step back. Birds can tell you a lot about how they are feeling with their body language. Your job at the moment is to keep his body language relaxed. It may mean not touching him for now - and that is fine. It may mean approaching him calmly, smoothly. It may mean having to keep low to make him feel comfortable (birds feel safer higher up where they can spot predators - in a cage it is hard for them to get higher, but you can get lower). Open the cage door and let him choose if he wants to climb out or not. Having choice is an important reinforcer - so important it is called a primary reinforcer. If you make sure his body language is relaxed, he will start to pair good/relaxed feelings about you when you are around.

Yay - you have discovered his favourite snack! A great reinforcer to use! Will he eat apple if you hold it for him? If not put a slice through the bars of his cage. Then gradually get slower and slower at slotting in the slice of apple until he begins to eat it whilst you are still holding it. Later you can offer him some without the bars between you. Because he likes apple (it is a good experience) he will pair you with that good experience and begin to look forward to your presence. You, the bringer of lovely apples!!

hey io! whats up guys! I hope every one are staying safe at their houses with their lovely parrots!
Im just a little board tbd.
Ranji is fine but still very afraid of my. it makes me feel not very good because i tried very hard to comfort him. but im sure hell get used ( i hope at least)
Does anyone knows any videos about conures or have any tips for me?

I think being in a lockdown situation in the UK things a full of wondering what will happen next. I have not looked at the situation in Israel but I am hoping you are all safe, unfortunately I cannot think of a video that shows a pineapple conure being trained, there are quite a few videos on training and I often like to watch a site called bird tricks. my favorite video on parrots is Australia the land of Parrots. film side I love the Rio films and my favorite film with parrots is paulee. in the film you will see a blue crowned conure and a sun conure plus other birds.

The situation in Israel right now is not that bad i think but as a high school student who learns medication its pretty hard and i miss my friend a lot. but im sure that soon well get out of it and everything wukk go back to normal.
About the movies; sure, i have some free time and ill defiantly gonna watch them. :budgie:

Hello from me and Dora, just to reassure you that you are not alone in finding your bird is scared - a new home, new people etc is very scary and it took a long, long time for Dora to come near me when she first came to us. Lots of patience and love will be needed but hopefully one day you will realise that something's changed and Ranji has accepted you as a friend.

one great thing about Israel is you have more doctors per population than any other country, London I think is getting out of control as the numbers of people infected climb daily. I have to be extra careful as I have not long had an operation to remove cancer that involved My nose, part of the bone below the eye socket and part of my top Jaw removed, I have quite a few flock members so the chance of getting board is a lot less, they keep me too busy. I do wish you well in your studies and yes it is not an easy subject.

I can remember when I started training Terry, I let him out in the bathroom and just sat in the bath with no water in it. he did not have many places to fly too so he went for the highest place and that was on my head.
