How To Sprout - Step By Step Guide

Found a little shop today in town that has and is 100% organic, so I popped in (apparently it’s been there for 3 years 🤔) you can prob tell I’m not really into healthy. 😂

Anyway among other things they had these, even thou Burt won’t touch sprouted things I’m not giving up.

Should I try these, if so which do you think ?

GREAT!!! I get organic grains and legumes too. Yes, you can sprout the
Mung Beans
Aduki Beans
Green Lentils
Brown Lentils
Chickpeas

Red lentils and the yellow Split Peas won't sprout because they are not whole. Likewise not the Soup Mix because that has Red Lentils in it and may have other stuff like Pearled Barley that won't sprout. I wouldn't sprout the Cannellini beans - best stick to Mung, Aduki, Chickpeas, Butter Beans and Lentils.

Also try grains - Wheat berries, Kamut, Rye, Spelt, Buckwheat (raw not roasted), wholegrain Rice, Quinoa. See at the beginning of the thread for percentages.

A complete protein contains a whole bunch of amino acids. Legumes contain some of them, and Grains contain the amino acids missing from the Legumes. Lentils and Quinoa are unusual in that they contain a complete panel of amino acids.

However my greys simply refuse sprouted pulses despite years of trying. Do any other grey owners find this? Mine love sprouted sunflower, safflower, hemp, canary, millet, wheat and buckwheat and cooked soaked pulses so I dont worry too much.

Yes, sprouted Sunflower and Safflower are very popular here too. So is soaked Hemp - sadly it no longer sprouts for legal reasons. I put those three on top of the other sprouts to get them interested. I'll add a few sprouted Pumpkin seeds too. Kobe absolutely loves sprouted corn too, but it seems to sprout better in the summer with more heat.

So we’re still on the sprouting thing, Bert still hasn’t touched it but we won’t be beaten 😂

we've resorted to sprouting separately to see if he likes/dislikes something in the mix.

today we are doing
Mung Beans
Aduki Beans
Green Lentils
Brown Lentils

We also found organic Quinoa and bought some.

what do I do with quinoa?
ive read it’s fine raw or boiled for 10-12 minutes and I’ve also seen it will sprout overnight ??

Whats best ?

Yes, Quinoa is very fast at sprouting. You can soak overnight and you'll see it is already sprouting by the morning and feed then.... or you can let it get longer so it looks like alfalfa sprouts. You can indeed cook it too as you said and serve it in place of rice or other grain. Quinoa is great because it's the only grain that is a whole protein.

Good luck! I too keep trying until they eat it. You could fold some mixed chop veggies into your sprout mix when you serve it - might get some interest? Or add some chopped walnuts again when serving or even some chopped hard boiled egg white. I found that putting sprouted sunflowers and a few soaked hemp seeds (they won't usually sprout) on top gets them interested. I also add some safflowers to my sprouting mix as again, it is popular.

Well after 73 days of sprouting, offering, throwing away and repeat Bert has finally decided to try the sprouted mix and even eat some.

so I’m glad I bought enough to sprout for about 3 years as I’d if given up a long time ago.

And also confirmation im more stubborn than him 😁

little help please @Roz, found Bert only really likes to eat the sprouted popcorn but this is the only one I really struggle to sprout.

Any little tips ?

Thanks for the tip Michael - will have to look into that. I am finding the ones from the health shop difficult to sprout at the moment too. I find in general they sprout better in the summer when temperatures are higher.

Can anyone identify these, might not be possible from the pics, they came in the big bag of mixed and he seems to eat these as well as popcorn but that’s all 😂

2 different ones but different angles to help

The larger ones look like red corn. The ones in your hand if they are dark red look like Aduki beans.
