How To Sprout - Step By Step Guide

I can't say my quinoa sprouting exercise was successful anyway so no loss there. Just will need to watch the number of other foods I feed Plum that has some in.

In regards to the likes of chickpeas, sunflower seeds, wheat etc where can I purchase these? Is it the likes of everyday grocery stores? Tesco, Lidl, Asda...

This thread is amazing!

Thank you x

with many bird seeds that you buy you can sprout some of the seed from there, I do not think you will get good results from a grocery store purchase, you can get sprouting seeds from good pet stores or from online parrot supplies like garden feathers or Scarletts parrot essentials

Thanks, @KLD95 ! I get my grains from here: https://www.buywholefoodsonline.co.uk/cereal-grains (their Kamut is excellent! - it's like big wheat) or a good health store.
Chickpeas I get from a good health store as the ones from the above link sometimes don't seem to sprout well, but everyday grocery stores should sell them too - they will just unlikely be organic.
Sunflowers I get from a health store or https://www.buywholefoodsonline.co.uk/sunflower-seeds-2 - raw sunflower seeds can be difficult to find as most have been heat treated to make them tasty for humans.

Thank you so much for all of your feedback @Roz and @Michael Reynolds . Your help and guidance is very much appreciated. I say time and time again that I can’t thank you all who’s on here enough. As a newbie it’s nice to have a ‘go to’ or as I call it ‘my bird bible’ for reassurance and ideas! Thaks again everyone :)!

Thank you @Roz, another great thread, I’m actually thinking of moving next door to you :aplastao:

Giving this a go with the AS3005K Soaking Pulse Mix from scarletts.

anything I should know or not do ?

also when or if the don’t sprout, throw them ?

If some sprout, do I go through an throw away non-sprouted ?

@Scott199 Rule of thumb rinse often and if they smell nasty then they are most likely gonna be nasty. Remember it is trial and error to start with until you get to know what is good and what isn't. Always err on the side of caution. I always leave my sprout mix 24 hours soaking as this works for me, some of the ingredients need less but hey it works here. Try just soaking and growing some mung beans which can be purchased from the world aisles in the supermarket. Use these as your first trials and get to see, learn what is happening. :)

Chick peas here take longer to sprout so I just keep rinsing and leave to sprout. You can pick out the unsprouted though.

So Can i just be sure ( i know i worry to m much :) )

1. Can i just get an handful, rinse well and feed ?

2. How long can i continue to rinse and feed this batch ??

To be fair when i ordered this, i really didn't take a lot of notice and ordered a 5kg sack by mistake, so i do have quite a bit more to sprout.

1. yes
2. you can grow them into a plant if you want, all the time you keep the water clean and there is no smell and the shoots are still growing its ok to feed, just rinse before feeding

Perfect thank you, I’m rinsing every 2-3hrs and a big constant flow for 10-15 minutes morning and night.
