Household cleaning ??

As some of you k ow im going down the long road of research, my better half is also reading/looking (probably at more important things than me ;) )

But anyway, come across the can do, can't do things.

having a conversation last night and she mentioned the fact that all, if not most cleaning stuff is extremely bad and asked "how am i supposed to clean the house"

looking online a see a lot of talk of white vinegar, but as she quite rightly pointed out, not keen on the house smelling of vinegar constantly, now common sense says, deodorant/perfume etc, is just do it in another room, but what about general polishing/dusting ect.

Don't get me wrong, were not clean freaks or anything but the wife does clean/dust/hoover/mop daily

we have a fair amount of gloss black glass around the home, so basic damp cloths ect leave horrible smears/marks on them, im guessing theirs something out their you guys and gals use ?

Are there bird safe things we can buy or how to keep the house clean and smelling fresh without the normal "pledge" anti bac spray ect ??

you can purchase non smelling vinegar I have used Four Monks cleaning vinegar and that dose not have a smell, it is safe for pets and that includes birds, good for windows and mirrors you can also use a mild washing up liquid but I would not use one that smells. most surfaces can be cleaned and washed with a mild solution or even bird safe disinfectants like F10. I also like the small of lemon so I squeeze a lemon and use it in my hot cleaning water.

Vinegar on glass and polishing with news paper I think dose a better job on glass, yes F10 can be used for the whole home cleaning they do very good products that cover the home

Yes F10 is good but don't over use it.
Sprays circulate around atmosphere and the spread around - all sprays that is. That is why I say to spray a little into a cloth then use that.

Apple cider vinegar is nice that is not only a natural disinfectant but don't smell too bad either, plus really cheap to buy.
I use F10SC which is the strongest variation in the F10 range and then dilute to suit use that on laminate floors and worktops etc with a squeeze of either lime or lemon juice for a bit of a nice fresh smell.
For making the house smell nice obviously the usual air fresheners are out of the question but there lots of different things you can use from fresh pine cones, cinnamon sticks, fresh flowers (there are a range of flowers that are parrots safe if they chew them its not going to be an issue) I love to use star anise which is an cooking herb which smells of lovely aniseed (and if the parrot eats it not an issue as its safe for them too)
If you have lovely wood furniture your going to be going for natural beeswax (with nowt added!) you can get that usually on the net via the bee keepers websites. Getting rid of things like limescale that's dead easy just revert to the old fashioned method of baking soda make it in to a paste and blather it on where the limescale is and leave it for a bit. There are very few things that cause a problem to get around the only major biggie is oven cleaning that can be a bit of a brain freaking occurrence lol but there's a thread about it on forum to help get you by that one too :)

You'll be hacking down the fresh lilac flowers in spring like the rest of us that's totally awesome room freshener and totally safe
Fresh rosemary (the herb) in a dish of water on top of the radiator with a bit of star anise or cinnamon and failing all else ... F10 do an odour eliminator spray :)

I will add if you cover your parrots cage do not use fabric conditioner in the wash as some of those pong something awful.
Be careful of some strong after shaves too, deodorants , perfumes & hair products some are horribly strong.

Well Christmas will be interesting for you … I no longer put anything up at Christmas time … the thought of large vet bills due to eating glitter, tinsel, Christmas tree, flashing light bulbs etc gave me a total nervous breakdown when weighing up the prospects :yikes: if any of my lot see anything they are supposed not to be near or touch they are on it like a flipping car bonnet!!
Wires all now have chrome shower hoses slid over them so that there's no chomping of any cables.
Fragile objects and anything treasured … locked away.
All mirrors now have sticker sall over them so birdies don't think they can fly into the room they see in the mirror
Anything new is checke within an inch of its life just in case.
House plants only parrot friendly allowed.
And then there's this thread I wrote some time ago which seems to hit the new description of how life is (not that I would have it any other way!)

oo forgot to say many of us own those hand held hot water steamers and floor steamers too

We have a steamer too. For polishing I do as @dianaT does and spray directly on the cloth. I use a lot of Method cleaners too. And I swear by using Bicarbonate of Soda and White Vinegar to clean the oven! Best cleaner I have ever known! I’d still use that if there wasn’t a parrot in the house. I only tend to use F10 on Ruby’s cages and tree.

Funny thing is things like apple cider vinegar which has excellent anti-bacterial properties (also has health benefits for birds suffering from yeast infection strangely) and also baking soda are a heck of a lot cheaper than normal stuff so you end up saving money without realising it.
When my shower head gets a bit clagged with limescale I unhook it Stuff it in a plastic bag and throw baking soda in the bag and a little water to make it into a yucky glue like paste and then tie an elastic band around the top squidgy it around a bit and leave it to sit for 30 minutes come back and rinse and hey presto just like brand new zero limescale job done … and with little effort and no horrible smelly chemicals

I've been there, too, trying to figure out how to clean without using harsh stuff. I use a soft cloth with water for shiny black surfaces like glass. It works well and doesn't leave marks.

To keep the house smelling nice without strong cleaners, I sometimes use essential oils mixed with water or open the windows to let in fresh air. I also discovered commercial cleaning services. They use special techniques that clean thoroughly while being safe for all surfaces. It's been a hassle-free solution, especially for deeper cleaning needs.
