Home made treats!

Well after talking on my latest thread, we realised something....there is nowhere people can just come to to see home made based fun treats for their feathered friends!

So lets rectify that, lets see everyones home made treats for their birds big or small, I'll start off with something I've now tried on Vert and she loves.

Bird Jelly:
All you need is a pack of organic gelatin (And I'm pretty sure you can buy that from Tesco, Asda, Lidil) and Fruit Juice.

To make it's as easy as following the instructions on the gelatin packet and putting the mixture into moulds and putting in the fridge to set.

Now people might think, a little boring but you can add seeds, fruit bits, vegie bits replace the water in the instructions with fruit juice for the taste. Experiment and find out what your bird likes. In my case I add rasberries and rasberry juice when I can!

I want to see others, and make this thread larger for new bird owners to get some nice cheaper ideas thats not just going to somewhere like pets at home and buying one of those honey bells

Brilliant thread idea @Silent

Here's my addition ... Parrot crisps

Thin slithers of veggies (I use a standard metal food grater to slice them) coated in a little palm oil, frazzled to within an inch of their life under the grill and then popped into an old washed out crisp packet to complete the illusion they are getting something naughty which isn't really :halo: The illusion for an older bird that has lived a life of eating naughty stuff it should not have had some rehomes have "issues" with a proper diet so its a way of getting around it, they think they are still getting naughty stuff but are getting healthy stuff

For the jelly... I couldn't find organic gelatin anywhere! Is it beef gelatin? The organic part just means the cows are organically fed, right? The ingredients just say: beef gelatine powder (contains sulphites).

Do you think a vegetarian substitute would still be okay to use for parrots? The ingredients say: dextrose, gelling agents (carrageenan, locust bean gum), acidity regulator (calcium acetate), firming agent (potassium chloride).

I want to try this so much!

I would ask others but I thing they should be

But is beef gelatin okay for them to have? Mixed with fruit juice, no extra sugar added.

Thanks

It's derived from cattle the process of creating it renders it safe
They have to tell you it's origin in case you are on an animal derivative free diet etc.
During the BSE crisis I was employed by a vitamin, mineral and cod liver oil company I learned the entire process of gelatin creation as the company was receiving thousands of calls a day about gelatin capsules
