Hi I currently have 2 young Kakariki which I plain on breading someday only when am full knowledgeable in doing it properly with the birds health and care at mind

But I would wondering what is the recommended size of bird cage I should get
I’m in uk if you have any links or recommendations to the correct size cage that would be amazing

My kak's are in an aviary and breed in there. The more room they can have basically is the better.
Make sure your birds aren't related to each other hence we always recommend you get them from two different places.

Forgot to say welcome! :BangHead:

Minimum for indoors would say this one for two birds .....
Different members have used this company many times and always had excellent service.
Natural perches are your best bet apple, willow or beech or hazel and Kakariki's ... hmmm part Houdini!

Hope you have registered your birds with that new law coming into force on Tuesday next week if not shout we'll tag you on to the thread that you need to email a form in for (it's currently free to register but who knows what the new government will do in the future)

Hi no there not related previous owner had them and one he breeded himself and he bought the other :) I currently made them a 90Lx37H cage from wood but it’s not big enough plus they like to bath so the wood will rot :/ so I was hoping to just buy a bigger metel cage for them

Thank you very much I’m very glad I found this forum with such kind and helpful people on it like yourself

Oh and search online as Little Pet Warehouse often do discount codes.
Oh and you need to by feeder bowls for that cage so those hook on D cups are fine and Kak's obviously love to bath so a dish in the bottom of the cage too.
Remember to plan for the future .... what to do with the chicks and how to vet new possible owners soooo very easy to get attached to the chicks as you watch them grow up.

Oh and if their box provided to nest in isn't suitable ... be prepared they in the wild will nest under tree roots and underneath things..... your kitchen cupboards may become a place they see as suitable!

I second the recommendation of the Elegance double cage. It's really good and big enough for two :)

Kaks love the freedom to explore. My female is allowed the freedom of (most of) the house. She's an excellent and enthusiatic flier.
If you give your kaks out-of-cage time - be warned. They will be into *everything* and anything chewable is likely to be chewed to destruction. What a learning curve I've experienced with my girl :)

Thanks :) I’ve only own my birds a short while but they’ve completely improved my mental health etc that cage is currently out of stock but I’ll watch for it coming back in

I wrote a sort of blog that I called "Tricky Kakariki". It chronicled my journey with Chocobo (my kak) over the course of a year or so. The things I had to do to combat her nesting instinct (she gnawed her way into a bookcase, I had to replace my sofa, DIY adjustments in the kitchen to safeguard the cupboards, I don't know what else).

Far from annoying me, I found the battle of wits compelling and fun. Chocobo has been as good a friend to me as any I've had since I was a teen :D

Is there anyway I could read the blog if it’s online that would be interesting

That’s crazy there like children at times 😂😂
