Hi from a new soon to be owner

Hi all

just been reading a lot and seen bee pollen is good, I assume I just give a little sometimes ?

Also rose hips which we’ve got can they have these dry ? Or do we need to do something to them ?52330C25-B244-429E-9E55-D47AECD6FA7C.jpeg

Hi, Im sure that as long as Bert is happy and warm enough outside then an hour or two should be fine - when its warm Dora comes out for a few hours at a time (feed and drink come with her) and is quite happy as long as she has regular connection with me ( if I am out of her vision we whistle ) and doesnt get bored (she can usually see the chickens too).
The rosehips should be OK but I would try one at a time either way (dry or soaked) to see if they are acceptable. I pick fresh and often they will be rejected if not ripe enough. One time I picked a whole load and froze them but then Dora wouldnt touch them!

Thank you, he had about an hour or so outside, seemed to like it, chatting away, well I say chatting he more of a mumbles than a talker 😂

ill try them soaked, dry was a “chuck that away” type attitude 🙄

Just remember to keeping part of the cage shaded just in case it gets too warm and so he can move out of the sun.

Also as a precaution I would also out some sort of lock on the cage and feed doors. I have an Amazon that got out his cage from opening the feeder door, thankfully in the house but he sure gave my mom a fright! My patty also loves opening doors and sitting in his cage knowing they are open 😂😂

I wouldn't leave him outside unattended in case of wild birds getting close to the cage. They can carry diseases which can be passed onto your parrot. Or say a neighbourhood cat trying to get him through the bars.

If I take mine outside in their travel cages I tend to sit with them, normally steamcleaning and disinfecting their cages a ndtoys whilst they watch and inspect my work 😂

Thanks, I still can’t get him anywhere near a travel cage, so wheeled his main cage outside, I sat with him constantly as I was worried about other birds ect, we have two small dogs who stayed with him as well, one sat near his cage a little confused I think, but cats were sorted.

Thought I post a little update today, Berts doing well, a few small teething troubles, he’s still nervous but today he came down to say hello, I was so chuffed how brave he was but tonight went beyond.

Another one please, I can’t find anything about Turnips, cooked or raw ?
If cooked best/easiest way to cook them ?

me not eating any vegetables is making life hard, I don’t even know what half of them are 😂😂

I would slice and steam it, but they have a strong taste so unsure. Mine have had steamed swede and sometimes mashed, not all eat it though so I rather give them something they like. You can bake potatoes in their skins the slice up and give when cool, that makes a nice change.

Another little worry if you would be so kind to help me.

found these in his cage today, I think/hope it’s normal but just wanted confirmation that it’s normal loss and not the start of something.65A478EC-050E-4FEE-8D99-F34B3F227CCD.jpeg4FFEBCE0-7C0B-4CBE-A640-FECD42555C6D.jpeg256A29C9-3437-4F07-A5CB-F876094127A9.jpeg4FFEBCE0-7C0B-4CBE-A640-FECD42555C6D.jpeg65A478EC-050E-4FEE-8D99-F34B3F227CCD.jpeg

Quick one please, pomegranate??

can he eat it all ? Just wash and give him the whole thing or maybe slice and give ?

just want to check he can eat inner/outer/middle etc ?

Rinse dry and cut a slice, he will pick out the inside and flick it everywhere too - so be warned. Don't wear anything light coloured!
