Greetings! And some questions about forpus care

That's awesome! Your sister is very talented. Belated happy birthday from me too guessing it was before today :bbanner:

Chaos my yellow nape has just found out that dandelion flowers are the best thing ever ..... nobody else is getting a look in on those she runs around the garden grabbing them all :p comical to watch she charges at them with her beak wide open screaming, good job the dandelions can't run away

Hello and welcome 🙂
All my birds have loved the very young pale green new leaves of young dandelions, but not the old dark leaves.
Hello Kerin,

That's nice to know. My tortoises love them too, including the flower. New small leaves are better from what I know but not exactly sure, due to dandelion having oxalates, causing mineral/calcium issues. I always paid attention to oxalate issue for my guinea pigs and tortoises, and I bet now for parrots?

We randomly have dandelions bloom in our garden naturally based on the season, I may give them a try sometime!

I sadly stopped preping fresh veggies/fruits/herbs daily. Instead I started making big batches of mixes and store them as cubes in the fridge. Current one I prepped has basil, parsley, spinach, cucumber, lettuce, green pepper, red pepper, sweet potato, strawberry, banana, carrots, steamed peas, and blueberry. They like it.

Sadly they don't show interest to pellets much. I still serve some with my own seed mix and veggies, but oh well. Pellets are not accepted well really. I add some powdered vitamin rich food too, at least it sticks to veggies and such and accidentally consumed meanwhile I think

You could try crushing or crumbling a few pellets very small and mixing it in, maybe they would get the benefit of some of them that way. Mixing with some mashed sweet potato might help too? (All mine have loved mashed root veg). You've been making wonderful food for them so far anyway, they're lucky little birds, and really gorgeous 🙂

These lil guys are food detectives.

They hate dills. I tried mixing some in their mashed food mix, they found every single tiny piece of dill and threw them on the floor :D

My worry was, what if that drives them away to eat their fresh food mix when they keep tasting something they don't like. That's why I avoid adding dill or anything they seem to dislike, because I am pretty lucky they are not picky birdies in general. I respect their choices at this point :D

New chop day!

This time I used summer squash, apple, plum, strawberry, spinach, broccoli, sweet potato, carrot, 3 different types of peppers, black mulberry, boiled rice and red lentils, and cucumber.

I also did some googling about bee pollen. I sometimes feed it to my fish and shrimp, we have an organic one at home. It seems good for parrots too, so I added bee pollen to the chop too.

Has anyone experimented with bee pollen before?:budgie:

Also should I give them some nuts? We commonly have walnut, brazil nut, almond, pistachio, hazelnut, cashews and pine nuts around, raw.

Do you give nuts to them from time to time? If so, should I grate them or just serve a piece as it is?

Dora loves nuts whole, she destroys them but I'm not sure how much she actually eats 😅
The problem can be that a packet of nuts would go stale before she eats them all, so, my husband has a handful of unsalted nuts each day and picks out a Hazel nut, ½ walnut and almond for her... she dislikes other nuts except peanuts which aren't recommended.

My caique did the same as Wendy's Dora, he ate tiny pieces but mostly enjoyed destroying them. They don't need lots of nuts (especially very fatty ones) but a little as treats is usually welcome. Yours may do the same, or eat every scrap, just try different ones and see which the eat and enjoy. 🙂

Probably new feather growing, unless he's been rubbing his eye on something.
I haven't notice any rubbing, but they play with toys a lot, maybe he accidentally injured himself?

They also groom each other a lot, maybe his partner did it by mistake?

I hope its none of them and just new growth
It is good that you notice these things (even if it does mean a little worry)!
These two are literally next to my bed, which lets me to observe them everyday even better while laying down :p

they look fluffy a lot of the time so it may be hard to notice such feather loss
