Lost and Found Racing / Homing Pigeons
Numbers are 'GBXXXXXXXXX' or 'NEHUXXXXXXXXXX' the first letters on the ring identify which union the bird belongs (Prefix please see below). The rest of the ring number is classed as the identification 'part' and this should be given to the pigeon union that you wish to deal with for them to locate the owner and notify them. It is the OWNERS responsibility to arrange collection of the bird not the finders, however as many of us are bird lovers the fact that we have taken action to try and find their owner speaks volumes. Please offer the bird sanctuary a place to rest safely with food and water provided

Thanks for this info.

My mum had a racing pigeon in her garden a couple of weeks ago. She fed and watered it and it went on its way. People have told me that if they are racing pigeons and they get lost/delayed that they get their necks wrung as they are no good to the owners anymore. I hope that didn't happen to that wee guy

A lot of the young birds on training exercise get a little lost at this time of year until they have the area mapped in their brains and if storms have been raging during the home journey of a race then the people of the pigeon world are more than grateful to get their birdies home one way or another. Some of the top racing pigeons are worth thousands of pounds just as breeding stock let alone the amount of money that can be won in a race
