Hi,

Just reading this and think its a good idea,i have just found out that my conure that has been haveing a very small amount of choclate when we have a choc ice should not have been eating it at all.

If you could put something on the computer so i could print it out, i would be very greatful.

I also saw how to try and make him eat other food, great idea to treat him how you would your kids when you need them to eat things that are best for them

You mention meat on there- I was once told to try Alfie with a bit of boiled chicken by a vet (not an avian vet I might add) but I thought it was a bit too cannibalistic for my liking so I never did. As a vegetarian I wouldn't like buying it for him. Just wondered if this was completely wrong advice?

All of mine enjoy cooked chicken bones i.e. wings, legs, if we have a chicken I keep the bones for them to chew on, always have.

Really?! I would feel like I was feeding Alfie a cousin lol  Seems like the vet might not have been crazy after all. Do you know if fish is any good for them?

Mine don't like fish, I guess a little may be offered but make sure there are no bones at all  in it.

You can buy a couple of ready cooked chicken wings/leg in the supermarkets and try him with one of those.

A parrot in the wild will eat meat as they are opportunists.  mine eat meat on occasions and chicken is loved by them all.  boiled fish as well.  it is not given regally .  when they have chicks then they have a little meat or fish as well as the rest of the diet they are on.the karger leg bones contain marrow that the birds love.

O dear- poor Alfie being lumbered with a vegetarian! But if it will be beneficial to him then I am not completely against getting him some chicken  :bad:

Really- your parrots have standards lol I may try some fish too then. So do you just grill them and scoop out the fish or do you give them the bread crumbs too?

I give mine the odd fish finger with the breadcrumbs to but only on the odd occasion, they get poached white fish blended into their chop for a bit of protein and chicken, but pulses are also good for protein :)

Charlie loves a chicken wing bone, she'll shred it to bits to get the marrow, she also enjoys a fish finger and boiled eggs, both of which are very occasional treats.

Hmmmm..... boiled eggs I will definitely try.......boiled fish is a maybe but I think I might have to pass on the chicken- UNLESS he really NEEDS it?

you don't have to. he can manage without but some animal protein once or twice a month is in his interest. a little bit boiled egg would do it,

I make scrambled eggies for my gang throw in the shells two plus a few other bits and pieces some times make it into a bit of a birdie style omlette for them.  Henni and Alfie love chicken bones with a bit of chicken meat scraps still attached and Denarii and Tuppence don't which is fine :)
