so I messed up!! Damn... sort of annoyed at myself for not being more on the ball but also feel like I kind of had no choice... Ok let me back track
I had a toy hanging from the ceiling of Kiko’s cage, it was in there from the beginning, up till a few days ago Kiko had ignored it, but then one morning I came to uncover his cage and found that he had actually roosted on this toy over night... firstly I was surprised as he did have a favourite roosting spot, not really sure why he changed it but I was more concerned about safely and him getting caught in the toy at night and me not knowing about it, so I moved the toy yesterday to the side of the cage but lower down, so that he wouldn’t roost on it but also if he did get caught he has the side of the cage to help himself out with... last night he really seemed to struggle to find somewhere to roost and although he eventually did choose his old spot I got the feeling it wasn’t a happy choice. So I put a rope perch in hanging from the top of the cage to the side of the cage this morning. He didn’t like it obviously, because he then tried this evening to roost on top of another toy when i went to cover his cage, except he very nearly got caught by his neck in the process
i stopped cover the cage immediately and put my hand in to remove the rope toy, intending to put something he was more comfortable with there instead... I should have removed him from the cage, because It stressed him out. He came over and asked to get on my hand which I stupidly did, only to have him fly off into the living room.... long story short... I have a very sleepy parrotlet roosting in my living room right now with no way to entice him down till tomorrow morning when he gets hungry again
Any ideas or am I going to have to sleep out here with him? Catching is NOT an option I’ve worked waaay to hard to earn this little guys trust
in the mean time I’ve sorted the other toy out that was dangerous... it was my fault completely I had hung it in such a way that a loop of rope was dangling down near the top of the cage. He was basically trying to perch on the loop but could so easily have gotten caught up in it.
