Fireworks – Bonfire Night – New Year’S Eve

Just to say that this petition is only at the 24 thousand mark (of signatures) and needs 100 thousand to get to be debated.

Uhm yes thanks @DizzyBlue, have started to think about this as both the girlies are new to us and have no idea what they will make of it yet? As they have night cages upstairs I may have to sat on the floor just sitting closeby for a while. They are both good and tend to take no notice of anything once they are fully covered so fingers crossed.

read this on facebook earlier and it sounds a good idea...
With fireworks coming up I thought it would be worth mentioning that if you have an Alexa that you can ask her to play firework sounds. May be a good idea to have it on in the background quietly then getting louder when doing positive things. No idea if it will work but if played daily over the next few weeks it may make fireworks night a little less scary.

In case this is of help to anyone

Classic FM has commissioned a special radio show to keep dogs calm during Bonfire Night firework displays.

The show will be aired next Saturday evening, November 3, when the larger of the boisterous displays are being held.

Dog-lover and former BBC Breakfast host, Bill Turnbull, will present the show that he described as a ' haven on the radio' for pets.

Well another year gone by and time to raise this thread once more time to start thinking of the impact of fireworks on our flock and time to take precautions once more
have to say thought really lovely to see that Sainsbury's have taken the plunge and decided not to sell them :aaaaa::applaudit::aaaaa: Well done them :)

Hate the dreaded fireworks time. Last year we lost our budgie on fireworks night kids were so upset! We dont tend to do fireworks as the kids are actually scared of them so we tend to hide indoors anyway. However the fireworks just seem to drag on round here until new years drives me mad.

I also am dreading this year, Bo was in our home for New Year’s Eve and i was working so even though i was worried i was very very occupied ha! Boyfriend said the fireworks lasted for 5 minutes where we live and Bo didn’t flinch.
Worrying me more this time round as he is more alert to any noise, Fifi doesn’t care about the fireworks and is a tough little egg!

Useful information thanks !
My first year with Gully, I will leave the tv on for him. I live close to a city center, lots of homes so high chance someone will set them off and often anti social behaviour unfortunately so I will be staying safely indoors with Gully.

Good evening everybody!

so i am worried about bonfire night, my boyfriend is on nights and im working lates.
Boyfriend will be setting off to work at half 5 and will close the blinds and put the radio on, i finish work at midnight.
mum usually comes on and puts the birds to bed around 8:30pm.

I am just worried that nobody will be here with Bo from half 5 to 8, also worried that when he is put to bed the fireworks won’t have finished. I can ask mum to put him to bed later i suppose and do this when the fireworks die down, but this means him been alone for longer.
I know work cannot be helped but i don’t want to leave him and him be scared on his own.

How have others managed to get through this? Any help would be massively appreciated!🙂

I will also have a light on, not bright but it will stop the bright flashes from lighting the room,

Thank you Michael, we have black out curtains so once the birds are put to bed the room will be dark.
Boyfriend is going to shut the curtains when he goes to work also, im more worried about when it’s time for bed as the house will be quiet. May have to get mum to put a radio on at the top of the stairs so there is some background noise to muffle the sounds but not enough to keep the birds awake 🤷🏼‍♀️

Someone fairly local had fireworks last night for Halloween I didn't know and had let Arthur out as he needed a widdle but poor chap shot back in scared stiff, he held on until much later. Had to turn TV up but the fireworks did not last long.

had fireworks in the distance but my birds all was fine but it did make a few horses react, went out and calmed them down patting them and giving them an apple each. had to wash down my boots to get the mud off as the entrance to the field was like a clay bog.
