Hi folks
Please say Hi to Erin the Khaki Campbell duck

Erin001.jpeg

She isn't mine, she belongs to an on-line friend. Erin has an irritated eye at the moment with a "pale-coloured" crust which has completely closed the eye. I'm sorry, there is no picture of this but there may be one later today.

Erin's normal avian vet is unavailable and her owner, David, has had no luck on the phone with alternative vets. I have asked David to wash the eye with saline and to try to get an appointment with a vet who is prepared to remotely consult with an avian specialist.

Has anyone any further advice? I'm guessing that antibiotics are required but I don't want to speculate.

Thanks all.

Oh dear, usually normal vets can provide eye drops for poultry, this may be useful available on Amazon RenaSan Antiseptic Eye Drops are ideal for all animal species and breeds. Use for eye irritation and disinfection, mucous clogging of the eye, tear stains, and sore eyes. RenaSan eye drops . Also Pets at Home I believe sell suitable eye drops.

Failing all that eye area. but he may like to contact trustee of the Parrot Society. His name is Tariq About-Zahr, and he works at Valley Veterinary Hospital in Cardiff - www.valleyvets.net he may be able to advise but whether there's consultation fee I don't know.
