Dehumidifier query

Hi I received a Meaco ABC dehumidifier 12l for Christmas but I don’t know if it’s safe to use with my African grey parrot. It says it use R290 odourless gas.Has anyone used or have any information about this.

Hi, it should be a humidifier not a DEhumdifier? We've got a Meaco humidifier but it doesn't use any gas, just a heating element to create the steam.

R290 is a refrigerator gas within a sealed unit it's not seeping out so safe.
You need to check your humidity in your birds room it could make it too dry and cause feather issues.
You could however use it in your bedroom or bathroom or kitchen where your bird isn't if you have things like condensation or mould happening quite safely

Hi thanks for the replys to my question. It would be used in the dining room room that is next to the room that he is in.It is for mould and condensation.

Yeah as above the gas is just like you get in a refrigerator, so as long as it doesn’t get damaged it should be fine.

May be an idea to get a cheap humidity indicator from Amazon or such and put that in the room with the bird.

Dehumidifiers can suck moisture from quiet a large area

just also keep an eyeball on the mould give it a scrub with apple cider vinegar help kill the fecker off

Has the reasons for the excess condensation/mould been identified? Without addressing those it will be just one continuous cycle. Mould spores are not good, for us and birds. Grapefruit Seed extract diluted also is a good remover btw.
