Not sure if this helps or not but the total daily intake will be approx 10% of their total bodyweight. If you weigh out everything you normally give in a day? I always overfeed, way over. Love to give plenty of choice. Thank goodness they don't eat it all, LOL.

Do you sprout btw? This can be a really nutritious food which is liked. Roz has some fab instructions on here btw, she sorted me out LOL. Sorry re the screaming hun hope things improve? :)

I'm currently using my own blend of Johnsons and Jeff's Lean and Fit mixed with oat groats, hibiscus flowers, some dehydrated berries and a bunch of other things. What do you currently use as their seed mix?

I'm not too worried about the not interacting with me in the mornings compared to her not wanting to eat her fresh foods. I just tried eating bean sprouts with her and she just took it out of the bowl I was eating from and threw them down. She was interested in my eating them and would follow me/the bowl around if I moved but she didn't want to eat them. Similar situation this morning, I gave her a mix of boiled pasta, veg and beans/pulses that I make in a batch and freeze. It has turmeric and other herbs but she didn't touch it at all. It seems like all she wants now is seeds and nuts.

This morning she did take a pine nut from me but would just fly away and keep contact calling. She sat at her perch at the window and just kept going. I didn't pay attention to it, I stuck on my noise cancelling headphones and did something else, when she stopped for a moment I would turn to her and whistle to her (hoping to pair the silence with my attention)

I've made a giant tower of corrugated cardboard, she seemed to enjoy foraging from it and would tear it all apart!.

I wish she would sit and whistle with me :D, how old is Bluey and when did she start talking? Flippers seems to be trying to make out words now. I can kind of make out "what doing"

Are there any vegetables you've found to be a great hit with your flock? @Wera

@Roz I've managed to get her to take the nekton, I mix in the dose with some passion fruit. I know she goes crazy for it so I'm using that as a high value treat to give her the dose. When did you start noticing the difference and should I stop giving her nekton at some point?

Interesting! I might have to try use that metric to see what happens. I actually just tried with some bean sprout.. but no luck haha. I'm currently piling up alot of waste food which I absolutely hate. I'll take another look at @Roz's posts, I've tried a bunch of them already!

Here's hoping!

Does Flippers scream when she is in the same room as Gopal? I can’t remember now why they are kept in separate rooms but is it possible to have both cages in the same room? Maybe some birdie company might help?

I don’t know re the Nekton - it has ingredients to help relax a bird, but it’s not a chemical cosh. If she is still driven to scream I guess she will.

Trouble with this is that “silence” is a non behaviour. You need to reinforce another actual behaviour (like targeting, stepping up, turning around, interaction with a toy, etc) instead of the screaming… preferably before the screaming starts, so that she is getting lots of reinforcement for the replacement behaviour and not for screaming.
I know… easier said than done!

Bluey had third birthday in January this year, not sure when she started to talk, she was passed on between houses I know she learnt a lot at her last home from another parrot who lived there but some noises she picked before she was there, in here she only learnt to say tut tut ( from my friend daughter) Bluey must be in right mood to talk but she whistles a lot, our other ringneck is not great with talking or whistling, she can say hi but it’s not clear at all and she tries very hard to mimic Bluey’s wolf whistling, occasionally she manages to do it right, both of mine for some reason prefer veggies in bigger pieces so they can pick them and hold in their foot, absolute favourites are chilli peppers and peppers in general ( just not the green ones) carrot, butternut squash, sweet potato, sugar snaps, green peas… Blu likes broccoli but she prefers stalks more than florets while Bluey doesn’t care which part of broccoli it is she will eat it all...Blu in general is more fussy but it’s our fault, when we got her my boyfriend was on furlough and he basically spoiled her so now I have parrot who likes leafy greens in form of smoothies ( no milk water instead)which she gets in small cup when she is out of the cage🤦‍♀️ ( I know it’s a bit ridiculous but I lost the battle… he taught Bluey same so now I have two parrots excited for gloomy green mixture in espresso cup) did you try to hang veggies in her cage on stick? both of mine go crazy for okra when we hang it and in general veggies hanging on foraging stick keep them occupied, they like sprouted beans and sprouted sunflower seeds, they eat other sprouts too but not so enthusiastic, it’s good to offer different things in different forms you never know what might be favoured…Actually when we got Blu we used to do chop for her just mostly with few veggies which we knew she was eating in her previous home and we were slowly adding some other things to it, Roz is so right about reinforcing other behaviours before screaming starts it works, but takes time to get there

They're in separate rooms dues to space unfortunately @Roz, I'll start bringing her down in the travel cage more often I think even if they are not both out at the same time. I don't really hear any screaming when they are together but they do bicker and they won't stay near eachother. It's usually Gopal that is scared.

Interesting, I'll have to pay more attention to pair anything before the screaming. But yes very difficult to do and time! haaha

I've noticed the same with Flippers, if she's in a good mood she'll sit on top of her cage with me next to it and make funny noises.

Gopal goes crazy for any kind of chillies, Flippers not so much. I've tried hanging various different things in her cage but she doesn't take interest into it anymore. When we first got her she would see the kebab skewer in my hand and go nuts to try go into the cage. Now not so much haha.

I did notice this morning that she didn't touch her breakfast inside her cage, I then took everything out and put it loose ontop of the cage and she did have a peck at it. Maybe she doesn't like eating in her cage in the mornings? I might try feed her a lunch snack with the skewer and see if she is interested in it at any other time of the day.
