Couple of Caiques...

Joey and Phoebe are very much bonded. They seem to have got the hang of mating now, I'm just wondering if there's anything I should be doing?

I do not want babies at all. They would be hybrids as well so not good at all. I sometimes think I should have got another female instead of a male but then that's two females laying eggs that I'd worry about :noidea:

She's never laid an egg.
If she does can I swap it for a fake one incase its fertile?

Will this be detrimental to their wellbeing if they end up with eggs that never hatch if they want to raise young?

I think they'd be terrible parents anyways and they aren't nesting really but they do occasionally do nesting behaviour like get underneath the newspaper and make lots of cute little noises.
I'm just wondering for the future...

You can get dummy eggs just make sure that they are caique specific in weight.
Nothing detrimental about eggs that don't hatch the birds just switch off from hormonal status and wait until the next breeding season. Some birds can be naturally infertile so it's not an issue as they are bonded and there's no other available partner to take.

It's also a good idea to give them a bit of extra calcium/d3 if any eggs do appear...so the female can replenish her reserves...
Grumpy the grey is sitting on her annual clutch at present so she's getting extra rations of Nutrobal.
