Converting To A Water Bottle

Well poppy has pooped in her water again despite me moving it.

other birds that i have had have always used a water bottle with a ball in the spout. I am just wondering why parrot owners use bowls?

is there anyone on here that has converted to a bottle - cos i am thinking if i am going to try it i need to do while she is young.

I found this link let me know what you think

I did it Tina, was very easy. I put orange juice in it and Flint went straight to it.

However, I don't actually use it anymore....

The reason I thought it would be good was for keeping the water clean while I'm at work. But he thought it was fun to try to remove the bottle from the side of the cage - that meant I had to fasten it on so securly that taking it off to wash and refill was a total nightmare. I also then worried he'd get it off while I was at work and have no water so was also putting a bowl of water in the cage.

He would also chew any plastic bits he could reach with his beak so it was a matter of time before he burst the bottle and I had a puddle on the floor!

If you can find a parrot proof bottle its fine, but the ones I've seen so far are too flimsy!

I think thats why we use bowls :)

Also, Flint likes to bath in his now and again, don't like to spoil his fun and it a natural behaviour.

Try making sure your bowl isn't below a perch or toy, hopefully you'll find a spot thats not in the poop line soon :)

sorry no experience of a water bottle. But Holly kept doing this when we first brought her home but seems to have grown out of it now xx

reminds me too much of a hamster or rabbit lol

naaah i stick to bowls x

all this makes sense I have googled and seen some of a different design basically fill from a lit in the top. I will post a link when i find it again.

Yeah could work if there are any parrot proof ones out there

I thought about changing to a bottle before but then decided against it as firstly I didn't see how I could attach a water bottle safely to the cage as they'd just chew the plastic coated wire and probably break it off and cause themselves an injury! :O

Then on watching how they drank and love to really dunk their beaks deep into the water and take a really good glug, I thought they might miss that having to just delicately lick a water spout lol ;) So we still have a bowl which just has to be changed alot!
