Conure Limping

Hi. My conure has a sore toe, has discoloration (bruise?), and is trying to keep his weight off that foot. Being a Sunday, all vets are closed. Picture attached. Does anyone have an idea of what this might be? Thank you.

WOWZER that looks very painful!
Not sure if that is all blood blister or not but to cause that much soft tissue damage little one needs your vet to give him/her pain relief medication. Could be a broken bone in there. Would think that nail will likely come off as well with that much damage.
So tomorrow its off to the vets you go Send them an email today with the picture asking for an appointment tomorrow they may just dispense medication without having little one come in, in the meantime let little one just do what he/she wants to do without disturbing too much likely that is really painful and resting it is a better option for now.

I hope he recovers quickly, whilst resting it as much as possible.

It often seems that parrots as are much in danger from their own actions as they are from anything else. No matter how hard we try to make our homes safe for them, they can still find a way to harm themselves.

Here’s our update on BeBop. After two weeks of rest in his carrier, with no perching or climbing, and daily meds, we went back to the vet for a follow up. The toe unfortunately didn’t correct itself and was limp. It had to come off to prevent chronic pain and issues of the dangling digit being a potential hazard. Today was the day. Little guy had to be put under for the amputation. Came through like a trooper, is back to living in his carrier with a bandaged foot and a cone to prevent him from bothering the bandage. Along with his daily meds, we have to hand feed and water him because the cone prevents him from easily accessing food and water dishes. Back to the vet for a follow up on Monday. Poor little guy.

One of our budgies has a short toe. It has never slowed him down. If anything he is the most unruly one of the lot!

Not sure if it will help Bebop or not, but would an open tray help him feed himself? We put a 5-litre tub lid on the floor of our budgie's cage with finely chopped veg and they seem to prefer it to a bowl.

We have a few of the 5-litre tubs - popcorn tubs from Iceland. Cheaper than buying empty tubs online! Cleaned, deodorised, and disinfected, they are great for storing seed and other dry foods.
