Cockatiel and a Window

Has little one had first molt yet do you no? If she hasnt then First molt will give you what your looking for as if male will start to get a yellow face. Looks very female to me at the moment but wait until
The first molt. Ive always found my females to be very hissy an they dont hold the tunes the boys do but thats just my own opinion on the ones i own. Cage i would really advise something bigger for him shops will sell you anything to line there pockets .
I like flight cages as birds do prefer width over tall and skinny a bird doesnt fly straight up. Ive posted a cage that i advise for tiels an conures as i hand rear both an always advise these type of cage.

Hey.

That cage looks really good. We have some friends who have all sort of birds, african grey etc and their cockatiel cage is smaller than ours. Would you highly recommend the one you sent me? If so I think I will buy it.

Jax is very hissy. He chirps a lot and calls on us if out room. Also grinds beak when sitting chilling on his perch but he is very timid. Hes better with our hands now but nowhere near coming to us or ready to step up.

How old do you think he is? Shop said 5 months. Also I dont know if he has molted first time. How could I tell?

Attached closer images of his...potentially her face for you to have a look haha.

Thanks again

Hi,

Those cages are often deemed suitable for birds such as tiels and are sold by various pet shops but they really are not!

A lot of people buy this

Its a good size and they usually have discount codes online as well so the price is good too. Perfect for a tiel!

Hope that helps!
Ok thank you! Away to order it now. Thanks so much!

Ps boy or girl?

Cage 100% advise you to buy it an get your friends to upgrade to 😉 im going to stick with female on this one ☺️

It wouldn't be suitable for an african grey but is great for cockatiels but you will have to buy some bowls to hang up
Quite a few members have these for conures and cockatiels
Will see if i can find some photo's by member Stinkie she put up some of her's all set up

The underside of the wings would have spot markings on the feathers for a female the males don't but as you can;t have a nosy as not totally tame yet ... you will know for definite in another 5 months but am going with female

Just checked the existing cage and it is

44cm Width
95cm Height
33cm Depth

New cage is
Width: 81.00 (cm)
Height: 157.00 (cm)
Depth: 54.00 (cm)

We have just ordered it!

Thank you for the advice!

General length so little one in depth has little or nothing to spare. Silly shops.

If only 5 months wont of yet just keep an eye out for pin feathers an feathers in the bottom of the cage you will no when molting time comes.
Do you think he looks 5 months? I totally do not trust anything the shop has now told me haha

Ps ...Pin feathers?

Honestly dont get to caught up with age. Tiels are great birds to tame as generally they are friendly. I do think only young though. But even an older bird will tame. If you look at my picture can you see the feathers that have broken out yet of the waxy coating they come threw in thats what you call a pin feather there only babies so they have lots an your little one wont look like that when molting but you will see them scattered then as she preens herself she will get the coating off an there will be the new feather 😃
