Can you tame an 18 month old parrot?

The breeder said he was semi tame and wasnt sure how long it would take or if he would ever become very tame

But omg hes the tamest thing ever!!!! He loves being scratched and stroked allover his tummy and head, he steps up finally, he loves being out of his cage and today i managed to get him to come into another room and he loved walking allover the floor and tabletable

Im trying to avoid touching him too much as im worried he may be trying to mate with my hand? Hes 17 months or 18... I dont know, do the math haha but i dont know whats normal for a caique to do...

He bites my hand allover gently while i scratch his head and cheeks, thats normal right?

hi heather. I have a I R N about a year old. Owned her about 7 weeks and in nearly there, hand tame thanks to Michael Reynolds Diana r and toms mum just to name a few who helped with advice.

in this short time sweetie enjoys our company and is becoming more tame everyday. All I can say is time and patience but I'm led to believe it really depends on your bird too. Good luck x

Time and patiance but please remember not all birds can be tamed to the degree that people want them to be tamed, if you want cuddly tame then you may be disappointed if you want a bird that is balanced and can entertain him/herself and also interact with you your more likely to achieve just that which is better all round for both of you.

I have some aviary birds that have been with me for a long time they know me but they choose to remain wary of me they have their flock and they are happy they are all parent reared not tame part from two who were partial hand rears they keep the flock steady as they don't have fear of me but they choose to hang with the wild ones.

Other birds I have are tame and its just taken time patiance and understanding from my side to show them that i am trust worthy and build up a relationship with them not necessarily getting them to do all the things i want but also compromise and make alterations and adaptations for what they want as well.... hmm a two way street.

Dizzy you are killing me with this post....well done... :)

 sorry erithacus.... feck it and Bob did tell me not to kill anybody.... did tell him i worry about it as it makes me look like a bad human

No really i couldnt agree more, and makes me more than happy for registering here and reading all those wonderful posts...feedback and infos from "experienced" people is "treasure" to others :)

I have another question!!

as ive said, i was told my caique was 17/18 months old. And they reach sexual maturity at around 2/3 years of age? but he is trying mate with my hand, does this mean he sexually mature or?

Thanks

ha ha im loving the name stanley for a little caique,it looks like your worries about his age and tameness seem to be over judgeing from your profile picture.happy days are ahead with a buzy little bumble bee of a caique in your life ha x
