Sorry to hear about Princess Lou! Hopefully you get to the bottom of that too, please do let me know how it goes at the vets if you decide to take her.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you too!

Lui has been OK all day, just discovering his new cage and making mistakes lol! I guess it's always going to be strange in a new environment, he's still not figured out how to get to the top yet.
He was trying to have a bath in the water bowl before also!

I received the blood test results back today.. very high cholesterol levels so I'm taking him to see a specialist on Thursday.

Can anybody suggest why this might be or what else i can do?

Thankyou

Wow...that is high.
You can help with some dietary changes -
Oats or made into porridge with water and no added sugar or salt.

I will go away and check on other things and post again in a while.

I spoke with the specialists and they said Harrison's is the best at the moment

Will do some further research when I'm out of work, just looking quickly on my lunch. Jeez this is so stressful. I've read about milk thistle etc..
It's really strange to be honest because i never really fed him sugar, very rarely I'd give him some biscuit but it was honestly mostly the odd seeds and veg. Maybe too much veg?? I don't know.

My friend said he could have high Cholesterol because of his stress levels at the vets and the mice etcetc..

They also said it could be higher because he's actually female, but we don't know. Thank you very much TM. Hopefully the avarian vets give me good advice on Thursday.

Yes that's where I'm going .. it's about an hour drive from me.

I do not have insurance and cannot get it until lui is 3 months free of suspected sickness :( I'm an idiot really..

But I will sell my car etc if I have to! Already spend around £400

Ok take it steady and let us know how you get on....they will go through the blood results with you and will advise you what they think are the best next steps....they will probably talk about lowering the fat content of the diet.....and we can help you with that, things like apples (bitter ones if possible) and beans (they need cooking /sprouting) but as I say we can guide you with things like that.
take care xx

Thankyou TM, I'm going to do some research now and look into different things.

I've also started a donation page because my friends keep telling me to do it.

I found this page which seems to have good information on FLD and high cholesterol.

I am too scared to encourage him to fly for exercise as he isn't very good at it and normally bangs into something...

I have been mixing spinach and kale in with the mashed Harrisons and also made a sweet potato mash with spinach, a little cinnamon and raw organic carrots which he's eating

That's great....veggies have lots of vitamins and nutrients in and will help lower the overall fat content in Lui's diet

Morning guys. Sorry I didn't reply yesterday as I went to bed around 9:30 with Lui. :)

Lui seems OK, I'm just waiting to go the AVS tomorrow.

After watching many videos and reading about Quaker's, it is obvious that he's lower on energy and he has deteriorated within the last few years I guess. I feel like an idiot for not noticing. When I got him at 16, he was amazing, for the 2 years until I was 18 he'd fly on my shoulder when I'd try and leave the room, steal all my makeup out of my bag etc etc... but when I left to go to University my Mum kept him in the cage most of the time an I couldn't come home often. :(

When I left Uni after the 2nd year (because my Mum was threatening to sell Lui) I moved Lui in with me. He couldn't really fly anymore and wasn't confident. I made a little area for him with playstands and would transfer him from his cage to there everyday. He started flying a little after a few months, then I moved house again, he would fly a lot there to get newspaper from the couch. Then I moved again after 6 months (breakup) and Lui would fly little bits there.

Another move after that, (last year) and he would fly rarely but he was still good at it (flying to the coat rack across the room and back, going mental lol) and flying to the door when I'd ignore him so he'd be above me.

Since moving to this house (which is awful, it's ALWAYS cold in here, the neighbors are always loud and very inconsiderate) Lui seemed to have deteriorated - he did fly a little when we first got here onto the spare mattress in the living room. I'm hoping in this new house, which we intend to stay for a while because it's a nice area and it's a nice house - he will fly more.

well it up to you now to try to get him more active this can be done simply by having him on your arm and moving your arm up and down so he has to use his wings to keep balance. try finding games that will get him moving and more interested in playing. the more you make him active the sooner his levels will become lower and the more fitter Lui will become. try to encourage him to build a nest putting small sticks around the room and making him have to get from one place to another. @Roz may have some training ideas that will help even if it means going back to basic and starting again. birds hide there conditions to well and I cannot blame you for not noticing his slow change. of course his future diet is very important now but knowing the love you have for him I am sure you both together will succeed and be happy for a long time.

Alicia my heart goes out to you, little Lui has been with you through thick and thin, always there always your friend.
I hope now you are settled in a nicer house that you can get that bond back and enjoy each others company without any stresses. It sounds like the little chap has had to deal with many upheavals in his life.
Good diet and exercise (although not too much in one go) can go a long way to him getting better. Also of course the diagnosis from the vet. I hope all goes well there. Do keep us up to date x

Morning Alicia yes please keep us updated with Lui , like Michael has said birds are good at hiding their illnesses it can be hard to notice these things .Good look for tomorrow we will be thinking of you both x
