Bump On Parrots Throat

Parrots are so good at hiding medical problems they will fluff there feathers up so you cannot see weight loss, when he sleeps is he just resting on one foot?

How is he?
He has an upper respiratory infection and we have been given some bacterial antibiotics. We’ve also been advised to get some supplements until he has converted onto his pellets. He should be good soon enough thank you for all the advice

use a little Robinsons black current juice to cover the taste of the medication, did the vet show you or explain how to give your bird feed by syringe

We got some orange juice but he still didnt like it aha he’s not too keen on liquids in the first place (he eats pomegranate and shakes because of the juice ) he didn’t show us how to do it no

try the grape trick first of all, ok you will need to hold your bird upright and its head still by holding it with two fingers. do not try to hold your bird with its head leaning back. do not put the tube fully in the mouth just allow a small amount in to the bottom beak and let your bird swallow it he may try to push it out with his Tong but by holding his head still he cannot shake it all out. now its a good idea to give your birds treats with the syringe when they are well as they get used to it and are less problem when medication is needed. it dose annoy me tat the vet did not explain how to safely use the syringe to a new bird keeper or to a person never used one before, your bird dose not need the full dose for it to be effective and losing a little will not change the affect of the treatment,

Bless his little fluffy socks
Hopefully he will get better soon.
I use blackcurrant juice as well as my lot love its sweet sticky taste but at times it's just got to be a down the hatch and over and done with kind of thing so be prepared if you need to gently hold him and just squirt it down as he clamps his beak onto the syringe. Usually more upsetting for us humans than it is for them.
