Broken end of break

Hi guys, I'll do an intro post ASAP as well but just looking for a bit of emergency advice first.. We have a 20-something year old African grey girl named Angel who has managed to break the tip off her beak, possibly by falling in her cage at night.
She seems largely OK and is eating soft foods, she's friendly enough but panics if anyone goes near the offending beak, she also can't seem to use it to climb right now.
We are currently trying to get her to a specialised avian vet or even a decent regular vet for advice; does anyone have any advice/reassurance/info about what else we could do for her? There seems to be a serious lack of decent avian vets in Scotland (Dundee) and with us both working I'm not sure when we could travel to find one. Any help or advice appreciated, thank you so much (please ignore the gunge in first photo, she'd just eaten) 😊IMG_20250122_151524-transformed.jpegIMG_20250122_151720-transformed.jpeg

Hello and welcome, I'm sure others will soon be along to reply too, but personally I would make getting her to a vet a priority!

Welcome, sorry to hear this has happened, I daresay it feels bruised. Your local vet may be able to help or liaise with am avian one for advice. Let's see what our other members think @DizzyBlue have you come across this.

Have seen it before your bird needs a vet. The inner core of the beak has lots of nerves a blood supply etc. That's going to need cleaning and the tip shaping
Send photos to your vet ask for pain killers make an appointment book a day off on holiday.
A general vet can be assisted by an avian vet over the phone. There's also got to be a reason behind the night time fall that's not normal. Birds feet lock into position on perches they have very special joints there.
@ChristineW where's your vet located?

Hi, I definitely agree with the others that seeing a vet would be the best thing to do, especially as its quite a decent size bit of beak and could be painful for her. Unless it comes off itself, as has already been said, she may need it removing and tidying up. Definitely worth investigation into why she fell, if she did.
Do you have any loxicom/metacam in your birdy first aid kit to give her for any pain? However, just to give you a bit of reassurance, you've mentioned she's eating and drinking still. So you've not got the added worry of her starving herself in the meantime. One of our macaws actually bit a hole through the others beak in a fight once. On the vets advice, we just mainly needed to keep it clean to ensure no infection. Amazingly, the hole sort of scabbed and filled itself in, within just a couple of days. Hopefully you'll find an available vet soon, but in the meantime just keep an eye on her and keep her food soft and easy to eat.

I hope you found someone to help? How is angel doing?
Scotland is appalling for avian vets, esp in the north east 😫 Trying to find someone for Ferns bald patch has been a nightmare.
I’ve just spoken to Ardene House vet practise in Kingswells, Aberdeenshire. They have a girl there who has dealt with parrots and is currently studying for a qualification in avain veterinary.. good to hear!
If you found a decent vet I’d love to know who they are 🙏
