Bird hates dog

Has anybody else had a problem with their parrot taking a sudden dislike to the dog. ? Well I say sudden but it's been coming on for 12 months or more. We have 2 apricot poodles, Fred and Ginger. Alfie ( grey) for some reason hates Fred. He takes no notice of ginger. This has been getting worse recently to the point that's he is actively stalking him now. If Fred is in the kitchen Alfie is on the worktop following him and biting at everything. I have to stop him going to the floor after him. When he's in his cage he goes to the cage floor calling ":come on Freddie" in a really enticing voice. Freddie is getting old and senile and goes over , where alf is all puffed up and trying to bite his nose. Im having to watch them both all the time. Like I say he's not interested in Ginger. We're managing it but it's stressful at times. Just wondered if anyone else has had anything like this this?

I'd be watching like a hawk and not letting any interactions be going on.
Poodles were bred for wild fowl retrieval.... Think gundog.
Perhaps some time apart with zero interaction maybe Alfie sees Fred as competition for your attention?

Thanks. Can't work out why it's got like this. They've lived together for thirteen years. Unless Alfie senses that freds got old. Freddies quite happy just plodding about. It's Alfie who's the aggressive one. I am watching them and if Alfie starts winding up I have to shut the dog in another room for a while.

Hmmmmm! Are you able to pair good experiences for them both in the vicinity of each other?
If Fred is in the kitchen Alfie is on the worktop following him and biting at everything.
This seems like a good place to try this... but better to start BEFORE it escalates into this obvious aggressive behaviour because as soon as his emotions rise, Alfie will be unable to think of anything except aggression. Can you give treats to Alfie only when Freddie is in the kitchen? You could also give Freddie treats, so that it becomes as though they are working together to get the treats. This would begin to pair Freddie's presence with something desirable. Freddie's presence = treats.

Hi Roz. This is something that sort of happens anyway. I do target training with Alfie in the kitchen and the dogs are usually mosying about picking up any dropped bits of treats. Should I give treats to the dogs at the same time? A bit like 1 for you and 1 for you kind of thing?
