Best place for an angry ammie

Hi do any of you nice people know the best thing to do with my angry ammie he is still biting attacking me i have to cover myself up in a bed sheet when entering the room he still managed to bite me this morning do you think he would be better off in an aviary? I just am very tempted to fling him out the window when he does this i cannot cope with him anymore i have tried to train him but he needs someone who is not frightened of him an ammie expert i think but thats not me.Any ideas anyone

I can tell his actions are getting you stressed, trying to think what part of the country that you are, my mind is can my experience help calm him and how long will it take (with an amazon it is hard to tell) I do not want you to lose Charlie and if I can help you both in time get back together with out the attacks this well be a challenge but so worth it, Oliver the double yellow headed I took on a few years ago has taken me until last month to calm down and is now very friendly. What I will hate to see is that you become frightened of your bird

If you really need to rehome him then I can probably take him on after this covid 19 madness has passed. However I need to know some basic information on the little one.

Can you please confirm how old he is. If he has ever shown any signs of illness. Is he microchipped? I think I recall you saying he has not been DNA sexed or disease tested? And where abouts you are?

After speaking with Charliebirdie, I have decided that I am in a position to help. ok I will organize tests and of course Charlie will be in isolation for a short time, but this will give him a chance for me to settle him before introducing him to training and the other flock members. the good news is the conures Frank and Doris have just had the all clear come through this morning so I will do some photos of them over the weekend.

@charliebirdie Do think long and hard before you rehome. You now have 2 people who have offered and in my opinion should not rehome until you have visited and spoken to anyone who is offering. Please do take your time. Fo n ow I would keep him in his cage and just give him time and space.

Hi well michael has kindly offered to take him but he is far away i have not had him dna tested he has never been to a vet i have had him for about 5 years and had him when he was 4 years that is what i think the only reason as he has got 11 on his ring so i assume he was hatched in 2011 he has only been to stay with Lou Turner about 2 yrs ago for 6 months then i took him back but he seems healthy he has never shown any signs of illness i have got no idea if he has got a microchip i just know that he needs the right owner someone who can train him because he is very angry and i live in cheshire

I think that Captain Howdy is about hour & half away from you or thereabouts, so not too far.

I'm West Midlands based. Google maps is saying it's about 1 hour 30 one way. Assuming it's got the right place, it's known to be temperamental on my phone lol.

I have 3 Amazon's myself. 2 orange winged boys who live together and a yellow crowned boy who is around 4 years old now. Aggression issues aren't a problem. My boys have aviaries they can blow off some steam in. Or just shout their heads off in.

Long term if you wanted to rehome Charlie to me he would eventually be moved to live in with Kiki my yellow crowned after a very long introduction period. Took a couple of months when I introduced my owa. The main issue I would have is the disease testing and quarantine. However I do currently have the space to quarantine a bird separate from my own until all blood work and microchipping etc was done. If they did not get along that's not a problem I have provisions in place to keep then separate and give Charlie his own aviary.

Depending on the bird itself he may not become a hands on pet. One of my owa Lex is much older than my others and he's happy to take treats off me let me clean and do his own thing. He is handleable if I need to move him or catch him up but he is not the bird to step up. On the other hand my yellow crowned Kiki is like Velcro and anywhere I go he follows. It's down to the bird how much or little they want to interact with me and how hands on they want me to be.

At the end of the day the decision is yours. There may yet be more members who come forward with a home for the little one.

Please think long and hard about it as you need to do what you think is best for Charlie.

For the time being I would strongly advise you keep him in his cage. I know you don't want to do this but for the safety of all involved is a much better solution theb you being in fear and him feeding off that. They are complex birds and they will take any signs of weakness and play on that.

It has taken me a long time to get where I am with Eddie, we have been together for over 12 years, and because I was so scared of the beak when we first had her, she spent most of her early life in the cage 😔. However she does now trust me, although I sometimes misjudge her requirements and get a warning nip. Hope someone closer by can come in and help you get these issues under control x

Oh dear, how sad. I am not sure how long you have had him? Could it be something simple like his hormones/time of year etc? how long has this behaviour been going on?

Two members have offered help so if you do decide to part then either would supply an excellent new home and you could keep track of him vis here.
