Berts not well

Thank you for updating us, he is constantly on my and others mind, hubby asks me too whether there's any news.
Now come on Bert you keep them on their toes there and we all want to hear the results of your bloods. Your dad and family are all waiting for you to come home.

So happy to hear the update, glad that Bert is more alert and dancing away!
I have thought about Bert all day, it’s brilliant he has a dad that loves him so much!
Anxiously awaiting the update from the vets, Bert can do it! 🥰

So just got off the phone with the vet.

he’s had another blood test today and X-ray, calcium is back to normal, so now they can start the heart meds.

his body has naturally sorted the fluid so they don’t need to drain that which they say is a great sign he’s doing things for himself, liver levels were slightly up from last time but they are not worried as it was expected with what he’s going through and being fed.
X-ray showed all air sacks are clear and have mostly full travel/room to open, so his breathing is all fine now.

he’s eating his pellets on his own and even having a nibble on his formula of his own accord, chatting and whistling more and more.

so although sorting his heart meds is still quite a big deal, if all goes well and I’m happy he may be able to come home tomorrow or Sunday but that’s all based on the heart meds and his reaction tomorrow morning.

I am so relieved for you!
I know you have a long way to go but this news is great!

Way to go Bert, you are such a strong boy!
I will still be thinking of you and Bert but try rest up and hopefully he will be home with you soon 🙂

Well done Bert, now keep on going and you will soon be back home.
I hope you manage to sleep a bit easier tonight @Scott199
Probably not, I spent 8 months worried he was ill, now I can worry if his illness is ok :BangHead::biggrin::shake:

but yes hearing what they are saying, more so about his behaviour makes me feel a lot better, funny the vet talking me through everything made me feel a little better but hearing the nurse repeating the stuff h says here daily made me fell so much better that he must be on th mend.

I thnk the hardest thing is the quiet at home,

although the stress to the heart is worrying, the fact that the problem of the fluid in the air sacks has gone will mean Bert will have a good chance of recovering, although all I think will be well as with my Conker regular check ups will be needed. thinking of you and your family

So just had a call from the vets.

Bert started his heart meds yesterday evening and all is good, he’s more active and lively again today, eating his pellets really well and pretty much back to some kind of normal, no intervention from the vets on food or water and he’s chomping the cage trying to get out and shouting at the nurse if she leaves him for more than a few seconds.

I have to have a convo with the vet in a minute regards his meds and such.

but if I’m confident I can do all his meds (which I’ve never done) I can go and get him today.

Good news well done Bert. Fingers crossed you will feel confident on giving meds once you have been shown and advised how best to do it.

That’s my concern as they won’t let me in to show me, no one can go in the bets

I’m just working on that now with them.

I guess its given through a small syringe? Will you be able to steady him while it goes into the beak. They will advise.

with my vet during lockdown they allowed people to stay outside and showed the owners what to do by having the window open in the surgery and instructing the owner what to do, mind you it was with non flying animals

I'm so pleased he's coming home with you today!!!!!

Depending on what type of meds it is you may be able to train him to take it off a spoon or direct from the syringe without having to manhandle him for them.

But for now the main thing is getting him home back where he belongs!!!
