Baby cockatiel aspergillosis

So great to hear that Reggie is doing well. Looking forward to seeing a pic of him!

I will advise you to get a cheap nebuliser when you can, Lidl some times sell a battery one at a very good price, it helps birds that have breathing problems. you can search for the post on this site "National Geographic" you will see me using one with a ringneck that had problems

@Michael Reynolds Reggie is doing well, thank you - more vocal and cheeky every day, and more trustful. He will eat seed from my hand now, and even forgets himself and steps onto my finger every now and then. Though still wary of being touched so I haven't tried to take him out yet. Still not keen on veg though he will pick seeds out of grated carrot so he must be getting a bit of the carrot too. Thanks @plumsmum for that tip :)

On vet's advice we have tried to phase out the nebuliser but find he tends to relapse into wheezing if he doesn't have it at least once every day. Suspect he will need this for quite a while yet.

I was interested to see how you nebulise Beryl in the National Geographic pics. So gentle and she looks like she is enjoying it. At the moment we are nebulising Reggie in his cage with a blanket over, using a mains operated nebuliser, a process he really doesn't like it. Hopefully once he starts coming out we will be able to do it the same way you do.

That was white ringneck called Jeff, i would not phase out the nebuliser but just use water with no addatives. the fact that your bird still gets wheezy shows that he still needs the calming mouster that the nebuliser brings. i would not use a blanket over the cage now and allow the steam to raise up to yor bird, he then will not see it as a punnisment and start to enjoy it more and being able to avoid some of the steam it will still make the air around him moist. One thing a did not mention is his dry food shold be removed when steeming. try this and let me know how he gets on

Thanks Michael. Sorry I mistook Jeff. Should I use purified water to nebulise? e.g. would boiled for 5 mins and then cooled be okay? Will let you know how he gets on.

We tried the nebuliser with just boiled cool water, and Reggie loved it. He was preening and lifting up his wings, and getting as close as he could. And afterwards so cheerful and pleased with himself. And we did take his seeds out first. Thank you so much for the advice @ Michael Reynolds :)

Three years ago I started this thread asking for advice treating our cockatiel's breathing difficulties. It was a long journey with many relapses along the way (and not to mention a pandemic) but wonderful advice from @Michael Reynolds, @DizzyBlue, @Roz and others helped us treat him successfully. Happy to report that Reggie is healthy, cheeky and Happy. I promised a pic but it has taken him a long time to develop trust. With patience, today here he is sitting on my husband's head. Thank you all so much!
