My Hansom cag (buddy) is going through a molt and is quite a vocal one usually , anyone else experiencing a quiet house due to molt ? 31DCFF7C-45C9-4C1D-A7F6-F80326B3E8CE.jpegMorning cuddles

My 3 greyss and my two ammies are going through a moult at the moment ... and its far from quiet if anything its cranky!
I collect the undamaged flight feathers moulted and send them to a vets for them to be used to help other birds regain flight as they use them to imp the wings :)

Ah wow that’s special — and my outdoor birds are very loud during there molt but buddy does it every time he has a molt and I find it quite cute - he’s such a tart and he always makes sure he is looking his best , never once picked a feather so I’m grateful for that .

Jardine Jessie has started too. Her behaviour doesn't change much when she moults but we do keep an eye on her and introduce Aloe Vera into her spray shower if she shows any sign of irritation. She does love head scratches i.e. going through the motions of looking for pins, but not much is showing yet.

Moustached parakeets have been moulting, mind they are not tame so no head scratches, they come out & have their flying time and routines but never step up, never have only late Squeaky did.

My grey is starting his moult, he is only just coming up to 14 months so this is his first.
So far he hasn't changed although loves his head tickled more now and is very welcoming of a bath which is brilliant!

He is a little cranky with his toys, if they touch him and he doesn't want them to the poor toys get attacked haha, but with us he is playing all independent then he will come over and dip his little head haha!😍

Oh that's brilliant! I did not know you could do this, Bo is currently short on flight feathers due to his clip on one wing but i will contact my vets to see if this is something they do also! He has one wing he can spare 😂
I currently save them all in a box because they're so pretty!

I send mine for the attention of:

Tom Dutton at the following address Vets Now Swindon, Unit 10 Berkshire House, County Park, Shrivenham Road, Swindon, SN12NR This is actually Great Western Exotics the Avian Specialists as my local vets don't do imping so I send them to people who do :)

The feathers have to be naturally moulted and undamaged.

Thank you very much!
I don't have many as of yet, he has moulted a couple which are undamaged and natural.. I have loads from our parrotlet though! Do they accept all from all bird sizes? i never knew this process exsisted! This is why i love this forum! My afternoon reading is sorted 😁

All birdie species of you can stick a label on saying species. I pop feathers into separate envelopes and write DYH or BFA or AG to make it a bit easier so you could do the same
Somewhere on forum there are some threads were last members have had birds imped when they have taken on birds that have been badly wing clipped

Cash is moulting. Is vocal as normal. Everyone is called a ratbag. Blows raspberries, gives kisses and comes for numerous cuddles a day. I'm guessing he's not got a stubborn feather anywhere at mo. I'm trying to spray him every other day to help.

Bebe had her moult a couple of weeks ago, Gary is having his now. We did offer the feathers at first to our vet, because Gary had imped tail feathers as a baby, but they get loads already! When they go in for their preen glands syringed (approx 2 years or so - as basically the glands are not emptying properly on either macaw, (huge coincidence that they both have the same issue) so they get a build up), the oil gets kept for use in fly fishing though
