Amazon wing feather droop

I have had my Mealy amazon 49 years and apart from moults he has always looked very trim. Recently the outer red feathers on both wings have drooped and don't fold away out of sight. Could this be the first sign of old age? Otherwise he is his normal alert self.

Do you have any pictures to show what you mean? It could be a number of things and a picture would help us really understand what it looks like.

He's not moulting at the moment is he?

:welcome: @Ian Swallow

As has been asked could your Mealy be moulting. Has he flown or knocked his wing and that part not folded back in, will he lett you have a little look?
As has been mentioned a photo may help.

He Finished moulting some months ago and is otherwise looking good. He never flies. He only flaps his wings when being showered. I will try to send a photo but unfortunately don't have a smart phone!

At the age of 43 he is just over half way in his expectant life so I cannot see his age being the problem, if you can get some one to take a photo you can always send it to me on 07860 353539 and I will post it up for you

@Ian Swallow you don't need to send it via a phone. If you have a camera and can load it onto your computer you can load it up from there but it has to be under 1mg I believe. This is what I do.
Could he had flapped his wing and caught it in the bars of the car at sometime. Is it troubling him.

To start with it was only on one side, but after a few weeks the other side started, and they are now identical, which makes me think it is genetic.

I must say he looks good for his age. I have a BF Amazon living with me who is only around 17 but couple of her feathers grow in odd directions, can only find one of her tail but one on her wing is odd. They have been like that since she came but she did have a hard life before.

you may be correct but I am just wondering could this be the time of year for display, Not having a Mealy myself I will tag two people one whom has a mealy and one I class as an expert on the amazons @JessCheekyMia have yo noticed this happening? @Parrot797 we need your knowledge. it may take time for them to see the tags but I think they are in a better position than me to advise,
