Amazon Food Mix

Has anyone used Vitapol Vitaline Amazon Parrot Food? Looking for an alternative to Tidymix.

We feed Daisy Prestige Loro Parque Amazon Parrot Blend by Versele-Laga in the morning and Tidymix in the afternoon for variety. She also has fresh fruit, veg and Nutriberries as treats. Would like to give her a variety of balanced dry food as she will not touch pelleted food.

Last week we opened a new pack of Tidymix and out walked a load of Weevils! don't think we will be feeding her that again. We buy the Tidymix in 2.3kg bags, and think the retailer bags them up from a bulk supply. The bags are zip seal plastic (like freezer bags) and have the retailers name and contents on a printed sticky label. Assume their bulk supply is contaminated and we just got some livestock in our bag. We have two more unopened bags but will not risk giving them to Daisy, they are now in the garage and will be fed to the wild birds.

Ah hun that is not good. You can buy Tidymix direct. These are the ingredients to the Vitaline mix:-
Husked Oats, Paddy Rice, Buckwheat, Wheat, Safflower Seeds, Corn Flakes, Papaya, Date, Green Peas, Pineapple, Dried Apple, Sunflower Seeds (2%), Dried Banana, Cashew Nut, Green Lentil, Apricot, Almond (2%), Hazelnut, Pecan Nut (2%), Chokeberry Fruit, Dried Beetroot, Dried Carrots, Dried Broccoli (2%), Roasted Wheat.

Do you think it is what you want to feed and be wastefree (as far as possible with a parrot).

Northern Parrots have 41 options for an Amazon hun. Do you think you should name and shame the supplier of the weevils? If that is done many times over not funny.

There are so many pelleted diets on the market, including some newbies. I use a little of Harrison's with my pink ones. If you can be assured that Daisy is getting a complete diet everyday not essential.

I've always bought TidyMix directly. That's really shocking.

Only other feed I have used for my Amazon's is Deli Nature numbers 57 and 61. But it from Garden Feathers at Boulden Colliery.

We have problems getting some things delivered up here without paying really excessive shipping costs, think that was the case with buying Tidymix direct. Many of these mixed diets contain the same ingredients, a lot is down to quality.

Northern Parrots are very good on shipping, free if the order is over £39 (when is it not!). Will try some of the Vitapol Vitaline Amazon from them and see how Daisy gets on with it - its in a sealed tub!

PS the Tidymix did not come from Northern Parrots they don't stock it. It was another retailer who we have had good service from, will not name and shame until they have chance to respond.

Oh dear, I just ordered a large sack of Tidymix today and Milk Thistle seed directly from Tidymix and got free delivery but obviously up where you live @ChristineW I guess there is an excess charge. have bought direct from them for over 20+yrs now never had any problem. Good you let your supplier know they will likely be mortified.

It should be OK direct from Tidymix, where we bought from they re-bag it into smaller quantities, suspect it got contaminated in their wharehouse. With only one bird we tend to buy smaller quantities (a couple of kgs at a time) so its always fresh - the last lot was too fresh, it was still alive!
