Hi all,I'm new to this but joined as I was hoping for a bit of help,I'm looking to buy an young african grey,if anybody could put me in touch with a breeder I would be extremely grateful thank you.x

Hello, and welcome to the forum. There are several people here who will be able to advise you, but have you thought of adopting a rescue rather than finding a breeder?

I wouldn't rule it out just thought that a baby one would be better due to a busy household with children and grandchildren visiting plus owing a dog,I thought at least a baby one can grow with children etc around them as not all rescues are used to that.

I'm not having much luck at the moment with getting one so any help is greatly appreciated.x

You may like to join The Parrot Society UK the send you a monthly mag (I think its roughly £26 a year) full of various information and have a page where their members who breed parrots advertise. Your can probably find more info on-line.

Grey's have just started breeding so likely another couple of months before any are ready to go to new owners. Make sure the bird you purchase has it's cites paperwork and legring matches id on papers.
Get one that is fully weaned and flighted no wing clipped birds.
Welcome from me and my flock :)

@lockey Dave what are you breeding this year?

Thank you,all the above is good to know, fingers crossed their might be a breeder on here,as I've had no luck so far and the ones I have enquired about seem like scams which I never thought was a thing ..until now.x

@junie73 there you are a genuine grey breeder contact our Lockey (Dave)
@lockey
If you two want to chat in private message system give me a shout I will activate your ability to do so Junie73 normally you have to get to 30 forum posts before it does.

Oh nearly forgot we have another new member looking for a jardine @Harriot ,
If you know of any contacts of reputable breeders or have any yourself @lockey

By the way having to wait for chicks to hatch and wean means you have time to get a suitable cage toys etc and brush up on things you can and cannot feed, make the room bird safe plus investigate things like house plants (some are poisonous), get rid of Teflon pans, remove candles/air freshener and wrap your head around this is an up to 50 years commitment. Reading the training threads on here will also get you ready for what is to come.
Not sure if you have owned a bird before but they are harder than a cat or dog etc. Daily flights etc. Life is not always a bed of roses around them they change personality as hormones hit at about 2 years old and most importantly not only are they as intelligent as a 5 year old human they BITE when you upset them. Children need to be taught ultimate respect at not teasing or sticking their fingers in cages.
Me I am a parrot slave it's become a way of life with no holidays (can't just leave them anywhere if you want to go away) You also need to find an Avian vet not a general and not an exotic vets but a qualified avian. Oh and look into insurance as well

I have literally just been saying to my husband that I'm going to start a parrot box with toys and all things needed so that we are ready for when one does come up...I've been reading up a lot on them and understand it is definitely going to change our lifestyle but will be well worth it.x

Don't get any food though you need to ask the breeder what they wean their bird on to.
Mr Junie73 you DIY list is already growing lol cables wires etc all need protection and hiding. As fast as we think we are their beaks are powerful and a heck of a lot faster than us. Any idea you had of having a beautiful house that looks like a magazine ..... relegate that to the dream world. One of mine yesterday decoded its time to strip the wallpaper off! I was about 6 yards away turned around and then heard that dreaded ripping sound  so I will be decorating this spring :noidea:
Oh a wise investment would also be an air purifier if your having a grey.
I have three greys and three amazons to protect my amazons breathing systems from the excessive dander cast by the greys I have two purifiers and the house still looks like its dusted with fine talc.
You do realise the bird picks the owner.... so you may purchase for you but your hubby might me the birds chosen one.

We have lists of all sorts of stuff built up over time on the forum of information on practically every topic you can think of. Dowel perches aren't good for parrot feet so Mr Junie73 saw at the ready and a bit of getting fresh perches sorted like apple, willow, birch .... stay away from any fruit trees that have stones in the centre of their fruit anything with a pip is good.
