Hello and thank you for creating this forum.

I am currently rehoming an African grey parrot. his elderly owner had to be sent to a home and his family asked me to find the bird a new home as they did not want to keep him.

this parrot is over 25-28 years old. He is a dna sexed male screened for PBFD (paper proof from Oct 2021). He plucks his right breast and neck. Before I took him on he was severely obese and on a very bad diet, he is now eating pellets, sprouted seeds, fruit/veg/berries and some nuts, lost a lot of excess weight and started flying probably for the first time is years. He started stepping up to my hand and bonded with me as his mate:oops:

*Originally he was meant to be spending a couple of days with me until one of my bird buddies collects him to give him a new home, but due to some circumstances he was never collected. The bird’s original family of course is aware of that and they can be contacted (well they would like an update on him in the future).
I would gladly keep this bird (and I will if there is no one who would offer him a forever loving home) but I already have too many birds and it is difficult to keep them all with a full time job.
This parrot comes with a cage and all the equipment. I also have a smaller spare cage you can collect for taking him to the garden, for example. I have a uvb arcadia light for him if you need it. He is ideally to go to one of the same bird lunatics like I me :)

he is being given away for free

just want to find this lovely bird a forever loving home

Hello and thank you for the fast reply.

he is friendly with me but obviously like most of parrots he will bond with a single person and wont be friendly to other people. He would allow both me and my partner to scratch his head two months ago but now it’s me only. His name is Dingle

Hello and welcome, from one bird lunatic to another, Just wondering how he got on with the other birds you have? I have a male and female grey's plus macaws, a too, amazons, conures, ecelectus, ringnecks plus various Australian birds, all have the freedom of my home most of the time. I allow previous owners to visit my home with short notice and will be willing to keep the owner updated. Only if you fill that Dingle will be happy in a home like mine then I will be happy to care and love him.

@Mick Lee who do you have in mind?
Some birds don't do well in a large flock and want just one on one attention rather than shared time.
It's always good to have lots of different homes offered so that the rehomer has a choice of environments

I will reply to Michael via internal messages thank you. Dingle is not “crazy” about other parrots but he feeds the mirror when he sees it so the chances are good that he will get on with other african grays. He loves to listen to afr grays vocalizing on youtube and seems to be interested in my rose ring parakeets, though wont let them approach too close
