As my alexandrine parrot is still new, I did not want another parrot. However, one of my relatives gave me a female IRN parrot thinking he would need company, which I don't think he would, and let's just say neither of us enjoys it. I know that Alexandrines loves their solitudes and independence. However, unlike him, Emerald likes going around the cage, which he did not appreciates and would bit her if she touches him accidentally, even if it's just the tip of her tail. I had wanted to put them in separate cages because I have done research on making two parrots close, but due to others saying they will get closer if they stay in the same cage and because it is hard to get new cages by now, they're stuck with each other. Although he wouldn't do anything if she's just sleeping in front of him (he watches her but wouldn't harm her), he would peck her if she comes too close or touches him as I have mentioned above. I will try to get a new cage as soon as possible, but in the meanwhile, please give me advice. I pity both of them and can't help but just try to separate them whenever Charlie tries to peck her. Although he did try multiple times to peck her, he never really peck her. She would run away and he won't chase her. We don't scold him a lot though, since we know he'll get hurt. (We did once, and he make his sad sound.) I hope u guys can help me again this time. And I don't know where to post this thread, so I just post it here. Please forgive me if I don't answer immediately!

I really would separate them, sorry to say that but they will not get closed by being forced to live together…how big is current cage? Maybe you could divide it into two by mesh panel?

Yes we did divide them, but Emerald (the IRN) would go around the cage, which results in Charlie making his "arrrr" noise, and trying to bit her. She would go from under or from the upper part of the cage. Charlie, however would just stay in his place. He dislikes staying on the ground. I will be getting a new cage asap.

Getting to know the habits of a IRN with other species of birds to properly see what is going on in there minds is some thing I have studied with my own flock, they will go out there way to befriend other birds, basically they do not take no as an answer. It can be worrying when they are constantly rejected but the IRN's are very smart and will avoid injury. they will hang around with a larger bird if they can as they i believe see them as there protectors, each of mine has a non IRN friend, its not for mating reasons as they will seek there own kind. the actions of an IRN is fascinating and the main reason they are my favourite species. each of my amazons have a IRN or two as a friend, but each tried to reject the IRN for some time, know the will share food and sleep together. IRN's will need other birds or even choose a human, they are not loaners and will always be the main birds of my flock.

So right now, they're side by side on the same perch, but they're far away. And it seems that they're communicating. Charlie makes a throat rippling sound (if that makes sense lol) smth like "arlralr" and she makes this cute whining sound like a really tiny dog. Then Charlie would suddenly try to peck her and she would go around, then they would be in the same position again. I have no idea what they're talking about, but I hope they get closer to each other.
