Newbie Alert!

:welcome: what a gorgeous too. I always understood with Toos and I don't know if it is applicable to all specie of them, that hens eyes had a reddish colour and males dark. Can we see you other birdies as well.

Hi Amy what a gorgeous flock you have, and I do have a soft spot for the smaller cockatoos. As with the other Cockatoos males have a black iris and females brown. The colour doesn’t always come across readily in photos, but I think Tooki’s do look black from your photos, but you’ll be able to tell more clearly in natural light.

Hi and :welcome:, I have a ducorp too called Gizzie. They are lovely too species.
Gizzie was dna'd before he came to me. The guy that rescued him had him sexed before I took him on. He said it's not possible to tell the sex with Ducorps as they both look the same. But I could be wrong. It is up to you if you do the same.
Here is a good websites that I trust and recommend

Hello and welcome, the iris of the eye of all young Ducorps is brown in colour and only as the bird matures do you see the male iris become black. I hope that helps solve the confusion. the only way of finding the sex of an immature bird is by DNA.

thanks for your reply. Tooki is 3 years old now and im going to assume hes male. Would like to find out what sex people thought Herbie my senegal is but might have to start a new thread! :)

can you show the underside colouring near the vent, I had done a post reply in the past regarding the senegals I have had with me and showing the difference between a male and female with photos

I hope you will not mind me advising regarding the leg ring, Senegal parrots have a very strong bite force for such a small bird, mine can get into walnuts and brazil nuts in there shells. this became a problem when my Niblet managed to crush his, I had to have it removed surgically and I have had the rings removed from my others and now they are micro chipped

:welcome: Amy! What a gorgeous flock you have! Looking forward to learning more about each of them. :)
