Fifi not using leg.

On dear that is so sad it's not as simple as an egg stuck
She will feel happy at home more relaxed. If she feels like snuggling let her

It’s incredible how she is super poorly and still manages to take a chunk out of me when i tried to give her a tickle 😂

Boyfriend has gone to get her now, shall update as soon as we are home. Thank you all! X

Very best of luck to all of you in this time of terrible stress. I hope she pulls through!

Update:
Mainly she is alive and home, she’s so weak and super poorly but she is home.

Mark is the most caring, amazing person ive met. He has supported us through today in and amongst three surgeries and other appointments, fifi was an addition to his day and he has just made this so easy knowing he genuinely cares for our girl.

So, she has had three injections.. one calcium, one vitamin and one antibiotic just in case. She has also had fluids and liquid food.

Mark has sent us away with critical care food to be fed in addition to her normal feed, he has also sent her with medication and stressed the importance of keeping her warm this evening.

Mark has said if in the morning she has worsened she needs to go straight back, if in the morning she has improved even the slightest we treat her and build her strength from home and then when she is strong enough we run the tests. Unfortunately the night is make or break, if she survives then it’s a good step but there’s a strong chance she won’t.

She is currently eating for England in her cage and has had a large drink but she is super weak, we have covered her cage with a massive throw and put a comfy throw on the bottom of the cage so she can either perch or sit.. she is hobbling about and is using her leg a little more than this morning, ive just helped her onto her perch 🥺

Boyfriend is going to get up throughout the night to check her but i think that her staying in her cage in the normal room she sleeps in is better than uprooting her and stressing her out.

We have also been sent away with avimix for both birds and if she is ok in the morning we start mixing it with her food and start her meds x

another update (you’ll all be fed up soon!)

Fifi is much more active since she has come home, she’s weak and struggling but she’s trying hard.
She keeps going from perch to floor to eat then back to perch and repeating this. Her food/water is in a lid of small container so she doesn’t have to perch and drink or eat.
Maybe over thinking but small positive steps 🤞🏻

Mark is good even if him and Henni have their odd moments
Don't fully cover completely tonight just do sort of three quarters if you know what I mean, leave a light on so its dimly lit so she can go down and feed if she wants to may help her if she feels the need to move around during the night time

Morning all, our girl is still alive and trying her absolute hardest.
She slept on the floor of her cage on her blanket last night, she is trying so hard to move around as usual but she’s hobbling. She had a poo this morning and has eaten some breakfast and some fruit and veggies, she has also had a little drink.
She is attempting to forage at the bottom of her cage for some goodies which she may have dropped, she also climbed to the top of her cage to her usual perch. Took her a long time but she managed.

Boyfriend is going to give her some meds at 9 and then offer her the critical care food too, have to syringe it into her mouth but only a drop at a time into her beak and she swallows, mark the vet said she loves her cherry flavoured meds so she will accept them.

Her cage is still covered to keep heat in, only covered the sides, top and back🙂

So pleased she still with you and fighting hard !!! Come on Fifi you’ve got this 💪🏽 Xx

Lol cherry flavoured ok says Henni but the banana one he does is hated but she doesn't like bananas anyway!
I love the fact Mark offers such stuff to make giving meds easier.
Glad to hear Fifi is giving it all her very best muster bless her fighting little fluffy knickers.

Mark did say he tried her on a couple of flavours and the only one she accepted was cherry, high maintenance poorly birds 😂 I don’t think she would have liked the banana flavoured either!

He went through a few flavours with Henni until he discovered what she liked
For me I liked the fact he took time and effort to cater to her likes and dislikes to make things easier and more pleasant for both of us.

Absolutely, he is wonderful.
He has put me at the top of his list this morning to ring and speak through the night and how we move forward, he just seems to care so much.
Thank you for recommending him many months ago, i trust him fully with the birds and he has such a welcoming knowledge about him 🙂

Hello all, our girl has taken all her meds and critical care food.. my only concern is she isn’t as warm as she should be.
I have covered the sides and back of her cage and she is sleeping on a throw but she still shivers even though the heating is on, how can i keep her warm?

Is she allowed a hot water bottle under all the layers of throw to provide that extra heat or is that not allowed? Im worried she can’t get warm.

I don’t want to do anything daft so might move her cage right next to the radiator for this evening and then tomorrow try and look into heat pads or heat lamps for birds.

I know this is a process but the vet said keeping her warm is vital, the heating is on 22 and the house is soooo warm but she is still shivering and i think she needs a bit more than what she has got

No hot water bottle she could dehydrate and any body internal necessary bacteria for digestion can be upset if she can't regulate herself.
There's one old trick you can try though.
Get a bottle(plastic) full with hot but not boiling water wrap it in a t-towel lay it at the side of the cage (inside) so she can decide to move closer or further away as desired
It's how I treat autumn juvenile hedgehogs that way when desired temperature is attained they know when it is and move to suit.
