Hi everyone, I have a young Amazon and a very brave parakeet

@Nao566 we all learn from each other even those of us who have cared for parrots for many years, thankfully no one knows it all.
Am looking forward to hearing more about Perry and Boris.
Thanks! My family is tired of listening! I’ve been a little obsessive trying to get everything figured out.

how I love a good debate, Now you have no doubt @Oil Fry so lets look closely at the bird in question, its tail is short, its body is stumpy, they have been measured up to 14.2 cm. bigger than some of the smaller budgies, they can have a different colour on the shoulder but i have only seen white.. then I have to question how likely is it for it to be an amizoniian , in captivity I will think they are not so common, they was only discovered in 1991 and four was brought to England in 1993, as far as i know, I think I was one of the first to meet the species when it arrived but that makes me wonder if they have ever found there way into the pet trade. even today not too much is known about the habits of these birds in the wild apart from they do not hang about in large flocks but small groups of twenty at a maximum. OK there is more chance that it is a Brotogeris, but to be honest I am not sure, I will contact my daughter in law and see what she can find out as she can gain access to studies through Cambridge university, herself specialising in parrots in field studies across the world.

I would agree with Oli Fry in that it is a Brotogeris because of the yellow on the wing and the length of the tail. Is not the Amazonian Parrotlet’s tail is much shorter and the bird smaller?

Love seeing the two together. I think it makes all the difference for a bird to be able to have a birdie friend. 🥰

Don't even know why I said parrotlet if they are one of the smallest parrots, I was looking at parrots on all parrots by alphabetical order and I saw it, super silly me

Thank you all. I am pleased to say Perry has shown improvement last two days. He’s moving about more and said hi when I took off cage cover. Is it odd to think his voice sounds different? Maybe the real/original Perry was abducted by aliens and the bird I have now is some odd substitute. Boris, my little Braveheart, is really helping Perry’s overall outlook.
