Where to put him to sleep

Hi,
My brother recently bought a parrot (which he wasn’t taking good care of him so i took over) and i have been researching about how long to sleep and i found out that a parrot have to sleep for 10-12 hours a day in darkness without any disturbance.

i usually keep my bird in his cage in the living room to sleep but the problem is that i live with my family which means there is always contant disturbance in the living room.
We have a spare room we dont use that’s well ventilated and i was wondering would it be ok to leave the bird in there throught the night and take him out in the morning?
Would appreciate if anyone can help me with this as i don’t have much experience with this.

Yes those amount of hours sleep are recommended for parrots.

Would it be easy to move his cage elsewhere? As too much disturbance can be unsettling.
You can three quarter cover the cage with a folded sheet, that helps many birds to settle and ensures a comfy night.

What type of parrot is it, can you tell us more, his name etc. and possibly a photo as we love photos.

I am sure other members will be along with more advice.

It is never quiet in the jungle so as long as it's not excessive or interactive noise he would be ok as Diana says too much disturbance isn't good.
welcome to the forum :)
That’s the problem it’s kinda of a too much noise and disturbance. I am just worried that keeping him in that room might make him feel alone and make him depressed or something.

Thanks so much for your reply, his name is blue (sister idea cause of his colour) and he is a quacker parrot. Would have loved to take some pics but he is sleeping now

You so need to watch the videos of Sparky the Quaker he's an awesome little birdie builder! His owner ended up with an internet star not just a feather companion :)

Yes, it would be absolutely fine to put him in the spare room for the night. That's what I did with my Pionus, Kobe, and eventually I put him to bed in my bedroom instead. He sleeps in a travel cage (his big cage is too big to move), three quarters of which is covered by a cotton sheet, and fleece on top of that in the winter. I just made sure I had a good bedtime routine for Kobe so that he would enjoy going to bed... his favourite treat and lots of talking and skritching through the bars before pulling the covers down and leaving. Kobe is prone to night frights, so recently I have been leaving a very low watt lamp on in the room.

and just to further endorse the use of night cages, my two girls love theirs in their own room and I get told to turn the landing light off. I always ensure there is food, water and some toys. They have a routine before lights out and this does tend to get set in stone, talking, playing, that kind of thing.
You can always adapt things I've a pretty good idea that you will know if Blue is not happy with something. :)
